Pets on Wheels

Pets on Wheels Pets love unconditionally. Their warmth makes a difference to those they visit. Pets on Wheels is a program that makes a difference.

Non-profit volunteer organization, providing therapy animal visits to nursing homes, hospitals, shelters, schools and more throughout Maryland www.petsonwheels.org. Our therapy pet teams visit nursing homes, assisted living facilities, schools, shelters, libraries and more, bringing the joy of interacting with a companion animal wherever its needed. Facility residents will often wait expectantly f

or the team to arrive and frequently will remember the pet’s name and more pleasant times. Visits by a pet team relieve the boredom many residents face each day, particularly those unable to leave their beds or rooms to participate in other activities. Depressed or uncommunicative residents have become enthusiastic and talkative in the presence of an animal. Pets on Wheels visits touch so many lives, as the pet and the volunteer see beyond the outward appearance to the heart of the person. How to volunteer: Info on volunteering is here: http://www.petsonwheels.org/get-involved/volunteer/

You'll start with the application: http://portal.petsonwheels.org/Users/register

After you fill that out, login here: http://portal.petsonwheels.org/

Once logged in, enter your pet's info: on the Volunteer Menu, go to My Pets then New Pet

The vet needs to do a f***l test and and then fills out the health certificate -http://www.petsonwheels.org/wp-content/uploads/health_certificate/Pet-Health-Certificate.pdf - and you send that back as indicated

We will enter the health certificate info for your pet and do a background check. Once that is done, you will receive an automated email inviting you to a screening. Read the volunteer policy (http://www.petsonwheels.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/POW-Orientation-Packet-Oct-2016-update.pdf ) and bring the signed last page to your screening. There is a $60 screening fee, payable by cash or check (credit card processing available via PayPal - extra fee applies), that you will need to bring to the screening. Screenings are currently held each month around the state. Registration is all done online. If you have questions, you find your specific local coordinator here: http://www.petsonwheels.org/contact/

Pets on Wheels is beyond grateful for an incredible new partnership! 💙🧡

We’re incredibly thankful to Jackson and Chloe Holliday for stepping up in such a meaningful way — donating $500 for every Orioles home run to support pet therapy, in partnership with MedStar Health.

Pets on Wheels is the organization that runs MedStar’s pet therapy program, bringing our volunteer teams and therapy pets directly to patients across the system. This support fuels that work — and expands the comfort, connection and joy our pets bring every day.

This exciting announcement got media attention — and you might spot a familiar face! Keep an eye out for our own program director, Cathy Mazzotta, in the video. 👀

And yes… the Hollidays’ adorable pup Coconut was officially named an honorary therapy dog!

Stay tuned for more to come!

🐾 A Heartwarming Visit to the Annie E. Casey Foundation

Our volunteers and therapy pets had a wonderful time visiting the team at the Annie E. Casey Foundation! Their staff works every day to support children, youth, and families, and it was a joy to bring a little comfort and calm to their workspace.

Wags, smiles, and plenty of gentle snuggles made the visit extra special. We’re grateful for the warm welcome and the chance to share the healing power of our pets with such a dedicated organization.

Thank you to the Foundation for inviting us in — we look forward to future visits and continuing this meaningful connection. 💛🐶

🐾Spreading Joy at the Colombiere Jesuit Community

Our therapy pets Hershey, Harry and Bess enjoyed a delightful visit with the retired Jesuit priests and brothers. The room was filled with smiles, gentle pats, and heartfelt conversations—a true reminder that a bit of furry friendship can make a big difference.

A heartfelt thank-you to our two dedicated volunteers, both named David R., for sharing your time and your amazing pets. You made this visit truly special.
