Disability Rights Maryland

Disability Rights Maryland DRM is federally mandated to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities.

Disability Rights Maryland (DRM) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization advocating to improve the lives of Marylanders with disabilities.Visit our website: www.DisabilityRightsMD.org for more information about our services. Disability Rights Maryland (DRM), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is Maryland’s designated Protection & Advocacy agency (formerly known as “Maryland Disability Law

Center”). We provide free legal services to Marylanders of any age with all types of disabilities (developmental, intellectual, psychiatric, physical, sensory, learning, traumatic brain injury), who live in facilities, in the community or who are homeless. DRM maximizes resources by using an array of advocacy strategies, including information and referral, advice and counsel, outreach and education, monitoring and investigations, training and technical assistance, coalition and policy work, individual representation, impact litigation and support for self-advocacy. DRM creates a more integrated, just society and improves the lives of people with disabilities by advancing legal rights and ensuring equality of opportunity to participate in community life.

Your school district cannot limit Extended School Year (ESY) to a set program if your student requires more services to receive a free appropriate public education.

For Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Parents: MSDE has required MCPS to document a reason for any reductions and provide evidence of parental agreement by June 30th. If a student’s parents disagree with the reduction, MCPS is required to provide the full-service hours initially on a student’s IEP or offer compensatory services. For students whose files are reviewed after June 30th, MCPS is required to offer compensatory services.
If you have concerns about the ESY services being offered to your child this summer, whether you're in MCPS or any other school district in Maryland, you can reach out to DRM at Phone: 410-727-6352 ext.0 Toll Free: 1-800-233-7201
