As Maryland’s legislative session approaches Sine Die, it’s critical to stay informed about key federal developments that could impact nonprofit operations and advocacy efforts.

Recent updates from the National Council of Nonprofits highlight several important issues, including ongoing debate around the SAVE America Act and its potential effects on voter registration activities, the release of a new federal spending advocacy toolkit, increased federal scrutiny of nonprofits, and the possibility of a new tax reconciliation package that could impact funding and safety net programs.

These developments may have significant implications for the nonprofit sector and the communities we serve.

The Senate “Triple E” Committee is planning to vote today on Senate Bill 4 -the Keeping Charities Nonpartisan Act of 2026. Please urge members of the committee (below) to keep the Johnson Amendment in place in MD law if the current federal administration succeeds in removing it.

Nonpartisanship protects charities and churches from internal divisiveness on political lines and protects charities from undue influence of political donors. It also protects the electoral process from potential massive infusion of untraceable tax-deductible political money, and assures contributors that their donations won’t be diverted.

Please Act Now!
