Join BGS staff on Saturday June 27th from 10am-12pm for our next stewardship network meeting, this time gathering both the city's forest stewards and garden stewards under the joint topic of Food Forests 🌳

We'll meet at Ash St Garden (3511 Ash St) and tour the BGS preserved community garden, and its neighboring collective farm and food and medicinal forest spaces that are part of Baltimore Free Farm! Plus a special presentation by Abram Shaw on food forest principles and some light weeding work together in the community micro-forest space that is Heart and Soil Sanctuary. Bring a chair and some gloves and come kick off your summer with us! Street parking available, and light refreshments will be served. Please register at the link in bio to let us know you'll be there!

Established in the 1970s this park was officially named in honor and memory of local activist and Recreation and Parks employee Charles M. Halcott.

Charles M. Halcott Square also known as “The Miracle in the Middle” is one of those spaces that makes you slow down, sit awhile, and appreciate the flowers, brickwork, and little bits of wildlife all around. 🌱💚

Have you been to The BOG?🌼

Tucked along Oliver Street, Barclay Oliver Garden was founded in 2012 by a group of neighbors and artists intent on establishing a community garden with raised beds for growing flowers, herbs, and vegetables for personal use.

Now, butterflies and other pollinators dance between native plants, murals brighten the edges, and the space invites everyone to pause for a moment. 🐝

The Pigtown Horseshoe Pit has been a neighborhood staple for decades! 🧲

For about 30 years, neighborhood residents have held horseshoe tournaments, played games, hosted cookouts, and more on the lot.

What’s your favorite green space in Baltimore City?

04/21/2026

Audubon staff had a great time at the Forests in Cities Conference in Atlanta, where Baltimore Program Director Susie Creamer and her colleagues from Baltimore Recnparks and Baltimore Green Space presented the many ways we collaborate with our neighbors for successful habitat restoration. In the audience were more than 100 municipal representatives from 25 cities, exchanging best practices and experiences to improve forest habitat for birds and other wildlife as well as human communities.

We had such a wonderful time tabling at the Laurie Berkner concert at the Jewish Community Center on 2/15! 🌳

Thomas and Kerrie connected with dozens of families from across Baltimore (and beyond!) who were excited to learn more about protecting green spaces and even asked how they could support land trusts in their own communities.

We also debuted our newest kid-friendly activity: “Who Cares About A Dead Tree?” 🐿️🍄 It’s a playful, hands-on game that helps little ones discover the animals that call our forests home and why even dead trees play an important role in a thriving ecosystem.

We’re so grateful to be invited back year after year by such a beloved children’s performer, and to share this work with so many curious, nature-loving families. 💚
