Meet Loni Anderson & Burt Reynolds. ❤️

Lonnie is 3, Burt is 5, and each weighs about 14 pounds. After repeatedly getting out of the yard over the past year, they were scheduled to be surrendered to a local shelter. Their owner had been going through difficult circumstances while working very long hours and could no longer manage the searches, reclaim trips, and fees.

Thank you to the two foster homes who stepped up without hesitation and changed their story.

Because pugs can be especially vulnerable to respiratory complications from illnesses like kennel cough, our goal was to keep Loni and Burt from entering the shelter kennels entirely.

But once they went to our loving foster homes, came the difficult news: both tested positive for heartworm disease—a potentially fatal illness transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito and preventable with consistent, year-round heartworm prevention. We are just grateful they are in our care to get treatment!

They began doxycycline around October 1, which is phase 1 of their treatment. If everything proceeds according to schedule, they’ll receive their first heartworm injection around October 31st. They will need to stay rested from that point on through the rest of their treatment. Shots two and 3 will be on consecutive days about 30 days later. After another month of closely monitored rest, they should complete their initial treatment and recovery period in mid January.

However, would consider pre-adoption (or foster-to-adopt homes) for families committed to helping either dog safely complete treatment.

Their former owner, who has three children, described them as affectionate and wonderful with kids. They have also lived with dogs and cats.

These sweet pugs deserve safe, stable homes where they never have to wonder what comes next.

Extreme Cuteness Overload!

Our cat adoption team has been working around the clock, and the adoption photos just keep coming!

When we’re quiet online, it’s because our work is very loud behind the scenes. Today, this face is the face of that work.

This 10 year old cat is so severely matted that the shelter hasn’t even been able to determine whether it's a male or female - even after shaving.

This cat is one of six cats on route to New Hope as we post this from a situation animal control was called to investigate. We can’t share every detail while the situation is still active.

Animal control officers were called to a home that had become unsafe for both people and animals. Upstairs, they found 14 adult Ragdoll mix cats living in poor conditions; thin, badly matted, covered in flea debris, frightened and shut down.

New Hope's vet tech went to the shelter this morning to assist with triple testing. Four of the six cats tested screened positive for heartworms. One is also making a gurgling sound and having labored breathing, which could be related to heartworm disease or something else.

We knew we couldn’t take all 14 cats ourselves so we reached out to an amazing breed specific rescue organization to help and they stepped up immediately to look for fosters and told us they could take at least 8! They didn't flinch or hesitate to answer our call for help.

Once the 8 remaining cats are safely out of the shelter and only with their permission, we’ll share more about the incredible rescue that jumped in beside us!

Situations like this are also painful reminders of why spay/neuter, monthly prevention and access to basic veterinary care and community support matter so much. Situations can begin with good intentions and become overwhelming before anyone realizes how far things have spiraled.

Friday is for Fur Dads

And we think Rodeo picked himself a pretty good one.

Rodeo came to New Hope after independent cat rescuers in the Corpus Christi area reached out looking for a rescue willing to give an FIV-positive kitty a chance.

Of course we said yes.

And now look at him.

Rodeo was officially ADOPTED from our Bee Cave Adoption Center at , and judging by this photo, we’re not sure who looks happier about it.

Rodeo’s adoption is also the perfect opportunity for a little FIV awareness. An FIV-positive diagnosis does **not** mean a cat cannot live a long, happy life. FIV is primarily transmitted between cats through deep bite wounds — not through normal everyday activities like sharing a home, food and water bowls, cuddling or grooming. Many FIV-positive cats can even live safely with FIV-negative cats when everyone gets along and there is no fighting.

Sometimes a little extra information is all it takes to turn a diagnosis people are afraid of into a happy ending like this one.

If you meet Momo, prepare to be chosen.

The first time Momo met her current fosters, she climbed right into their laps for cuddles. By the end of the visit, she didn’t want to leave. That’s Momo: she meets you and decides you’re the most important person in her world.

Momo is a 49-pound sweetheart who is almost two years old. She loves her daily walks, and she recently rode sh***un with her foster all the way to Colorado. She was a wonderful road trip companion and hiking buddy, politely passing other dogs on the trail.

She’s just as happy settling beside you while you work. Quality time with her person, no matter what you’re doing, is what matters most to Momo.

She is house-trained, knows “sit,” and will go into her crate on her own. Momo has enjoyed living with other dogs, but her current foster home has shown us that she shines just as bright as an only dog who gets all the attention to herself.

Momo has been with New Hope since March 2025. She was rescued on the day she was going to be euthanized for space and for having mange. She has had an amazing "glow up" up in our care and we shows us day after day what an amazing dog she is.

Please don’t judge a dog by how long they’ve been in rescue. Housing restrictions, rising housing costs, and the rising costs of caring for a dog have made it much harder for medium and large dogs to find homes. A long wait doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them - it just means there are less people who are able to adopt medium to large dogs.

Dolly broke the internet.

This4 lb Yorkie received more than 40 applications, with inquiries from Israel, Germany, Holland and South Africa. As an all-breed, mixed breed rescue, this is not something we are use to!

With so many loving homes before us, this was an extraordinarily difficult decision. Not being selected does not mean you do not have a wonderful home to offer. She just had a lot of amazing options. We hope you will keep following New Hope and reach out if another pup captures your heart.

After all the neglect, breeding and cruelty Dolly endured, we wanted an extraordinary life for Dolly and we after spending time to get to know one family, we found it!

They treat their pets as family in every sense. They prepare balanced, home-cooked meals for their picky Maltese and rotate recipes every few days, an ideal match for Dolly’s refined palate. Like a tiny judge on Top Chef, he sniffs, and then nods to suggest the dish needs something more before he will dig in. Left overs? Nope. Fresh cooked daily. Their dogs enjoy daily walks, a secure yard for supervised outdoor time and full inclusion in family life and go above and beyond with vet care. When one family member needed to live abroad for several months, the pets went, too.

They also have a big heart for rescue, having fostered larger dogs for a respected local organization and adopting their fostered Shepherd. They understand the responsibility, commitment and the mission behind this work.

Most importantly, they were drawn to Dolly’s story and wanted to give her the life she deserved. They didn't see a purse-sized dog or a potentially allergy-friendly companion, but the little soul underneath it all who has suffered —and considered what they could offer her to make the rest of her life extraordinary.

We know many applicants saw that same soul. That is what made choosing only one home so difficult. But know we found Dolly an exceptional family for Dolly and so please join us in celebrating!

Someone recently asked Nala's foster mom if they could trade dogs because he had learned she gives the best kisses! No dogs were traded of course -which means you can still apply to adopt her!

Nala is a 38-pound brindle girl who can be a little shy when meeting new people, especially at the park. Give her a chance to get comfortable, though, and you’ll meet a dog who loves hugs, snuggling, and her stuffed animals. She’ll chase a toy you throw, toss it into the air herself, then bounce right on top of it.

She lives with five other dogs and has done great with them. She walks nicely on a leash, is house-trained, and has learned to use a dog door.

Nala was also fostered with a cat. Once the initial excitement wore off, she stopped chasing her and began accepting evening grooming sessions. The resident cat would quite obsessively lick Nala’s ears and cheeks, with Nala's full cooperation. Dare we say she enjoyed it?

A face that says "Where are we going next, Mom?"

Wh***ey is waiting for his adventure buddy to apply! At about two years old and 82 pounds, he’s a sweet, athletic guy who loves people and gets along with other dogs in his foster home. He’s house trained, leaves his foster’s shoes and furniture alone, and is happy to relax after a good outing.

Wh***ey would love a home where regular walks, playtime, car rides, hikes and adventures are part of the routine. He isn't looking to be someone's couch ornament He can jump a high fence, so we are now recommending homes that don't rely on dog doors.

Eleven went home this weekend! Her new parents knew she was coming. But their sweet kids had no idea. This video is worth a watch.

After losing their beloved dog to old age, the kids had been having a hard time adjusting to life without a pup.

This is the video reveals the moment they learn their dreams are coming true! The moment they meet Eleven for the first time.

Eleven and her brother Hopper were found abandoned in a neighborhood where no one recognized them. New Hope stepped in to keep them out of a shelter.

Now Eleven has a family, and Hopper is still waiting for his. Hopper has a pending DNA test so we will have a big reveal for him soon too but he appears to be a pyrenees mix.
