Then: In the late 1960s, children diagnosed with leukemia were treated with relatively new chemotherapy combinations — therapies that improved survival but often caused serious, lasting side effects that followed kids well into adulthood.

Now: Donor support is helping usher in a new era of care. Researchers and clinicians at our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the University of Colorado Cancer Center have led a global clinical trial that’s transforming treatment for children with B‑cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This new, far less toxic therapy reduces painful complications and significantly improves three‑year disease‑free survival for newly diagnosed kids. Because of philanthropy, kids like Children's Hospital Colorado Patient Ambassador James can look forward to safer treatments, brighter futures and healthier lives.

Thank you to all those who joined us last week for the 21st annual Climbing for Kids event at Mt. Bierstadt in support of the Pediatric Mental Health Institute! This incredible event has raised over $1 million to expand access to essential pediatric mental health care, from early prevention to ongoing therapy.
