Hope Ignites Colorado scholars recently went on a college visit at the Community College of Aurora (CCA). Not only do many of our scholars attend CCA to get their associates degree before transferring to another college or university, a number of our scholars at Aurora Central Trojans are taking concurrent enrollment classes through CCA!

In addition to being an essential aspect of the college preparation our scholars complete, college visits also give scholars the opportunity to get to know our amazing Post-Secondary Program Manager, Maria, before they are working directly with her as college students!

Hope Ignites Colorado Scholars from both our Aurora Central Trojans and Regis Jesuit High School program sites gathered last week for our quarterly Community Gathering! These gatherings are opportunities for people like YOU to get a meaningful peek into the work we do with our scholars!

At this most recent gathering, scholars partnered in small groups with team members and community members to compete for bragging rights by completing a series of fun brain games.

Whether they are volunteering with the Denver Audubon, cleaning up trash at a local park, or simply heading out for a group hike to enjoy the beauty of Colorado - what a gift it is to experience and care for this planet together!

As Becca joins the team, we asked a few questions to get to know her better!

What is a fun fact you can share about yourself?
I have climbed 34 of Colorado's 54 fourteeners—mountains over 14,000 feet tall! And my older daughter Jiselle completed her first 14er with me when she was just 7 years old. She's gone on to do many more with me and my other daughter, Gretchen. They have proven age is never a barrier to reaching the summit!

If you could share one piece of advice with scholars, what would it be?
Every big goal is just a series of small, intentional steps. When I'm climbing a 14er, I'm not thinking about the entire mountain—I'm thinking about the next step, then the next. The same is true for your education and your future. Some days will be hard, the journey will be brutal, and you may feel overwhelmed and want to give up. But if you keep moving forward—one class, one assignment, one opportunity at a time—you will reach the top. And the view from there makes every hard step worth it!
