Our Toy Shop program donates thousands of new toys to children ages birth to 18 in 6 communities in Colorado each holiday season. Any child/family in need is able to participate in our Annual Toy Shop program. Kenzi’s Kidz relieves some of the financial burdens of at least one, low-income family pro-actively taking the necessary steps to create a stable environment for their children. The program

plans to give each child the fundamental items needed to succeed in school such as school supplies, clothing, extracurricular activities as well as birthday and holiday gifts for a year. Our Packz4Kidz program provides new backpacks full of school supplies to children in pre-school-12th grade. We host giveaway events in 4 communities in Colorado each school year. A lot of the work that supports children and families across Colorado starts long before an event ever happens.

This week behind the scenes, we are scheduling backpack builds in Longmont, Grand Junction, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, with Cañon City in the works as well.

There are phone calls, planning meetings, logistics, partnerships, and countless moving parts that happen before the first backpack is ever packed.

But every event added to the calendar means more children heading into the school year with the supplies they need and more families feeling supported in a season that can be financially stressful.

As a Colorado nonprofit, these planning moments are just as important as the events themselves.

Most days inside the Kenzi’s Causes office don’t look like events.

They look like phone calls with business partners. Conversations about upcoming backpack builds. Calendars filling up with dates across Colorado. Supply counts happening across tables. Logistics being worked through so the right resources reach the right communities at the right time.

Right now, a lot of our behind-the-scenes work is focused on backpack season and what it will take to reach thousands of children across the state.

A lot of decisions get made in this room before a single backpack is packed or a family walks through the door.

This part of the work may not always make it to social media, but it’s what makes the events possible in the first place.

Summer might feel quieter from the outside, but inside the Kenzi’s Causes office it’s one of the most important planning seasons of the year.

Right now the team is sorting donations, checking inventory, and building out programs for families who will need support in the months ahead — some of whom don’t even know about us yet.

Bins are getting packed. Whiteboards are filling up. Every decision made in this room will matter to a child later this summer.

Our most recent backpack build was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with one shared purpose: making sure children across Colorado start the school year feeling prepared and supported.

This year, our goal is to impact 10,000 children across Colorado through our backpack builds.

That number is big because the need is real.

For many families, the cost of school supplies creates added stress before the school year even begins. A backpack may seem simple, but for a child, it can mean walking into the classroom with confidence instead of worry.

Happy birthday to our Kenzi’s Kidz who are celebrating in May! 🎉

We always love taking time each month to recognize the kids in our program and celebrate another year of growth, milestones, and all the moments that make them who they are. Watching these kids grow and continue becoming confident, kind, and resilient young people is one of the most meaningful parts of what we do.
