Tonight at Armed Women of America, we focused on two critical — and often overlooked — components of responsible self-defense: proper flashlight use and intentional accuracy development.
A flashlight is more than a convenience tool; it is a defensive safety asset. Learning to positively identify what is in front of you before making any decision is a foundational principle of safe firearm ownership. We discussed how light can be used to gather information, create distance, disrupt a potential threat’s vision, and most importantly, prevent tragic misidentification. Owning a defensive tool carries responsibility, and illumination is a key part of decision-making under stress.
On the range, we worked through Dot Torture drills — a deceptively simple target designed to expose fundamentals. These exercises challenge grip consistency, trigger control, sight accountability, and mental discipline. Small targets demand deliberate action, reminding us that accuracy is not built through speed alone, but through repetition, focus, and accountability for every round fired.
Training nights like this reinforce an important truth: confidence comes from competence, and competence is built through purposeful practice.
Every rep matters. Every decision matters. Every woman here continues choosing preparation over complacency.
