Reshmi Parameswaran, PhD, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, is one of six researchers receiving new hairy cell leukemia research grants through HCL2030, our program with the Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation.

Her research examines how hairy cell leukemia becomes resistant to treatment and develops new treatment strategies for its variant form, a rarer, faster-growing type of the disease.

Together, the grants will invest nearly $7 million over five years in hairy cell leukemia research.

Meet Katrina High - a 2027 Visionaries of the Year Candidate!

After losing her father to multiple rare and aggressive blood cancers, Katrina has chosen to honor his legacy by living with purpose, leading with positivity, and making a difference in the lives of others. His strength, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering love continue to inspire how she shows up for her family, community, and the causes she cares about most.

Her connection to Blood Cancer United became even more personal when her neighbor and friend, Nick Werner - the 2026 Visionaries of the Year Runner-Up, was diagnosed with blood cancer. Through her business, Cultivate Kitchen Co., Katrina was able to support Nick and his family with meals during treatment, and later joined his Visionaries of the Year team.

Today, Katrina is channeling personal loss into purpose by raising funds to support blood cancer patients and families while helping advance lifesaving research and treatments. Through her campaign, she hopes to create a future where more families have the chance to make memories together.

Join us in welcoming Katrina to the 2027 Visionaries of the Year candidate class and cheering her on throughout her campaign!❤️

As a pediatric oncology nurse with 17 years of experience, Leanne has dedicated her career to caring for children and families facing cancer. She is inspired by the meaningful connections she’s created with patients and witnessing firsthand the courage and resilience of children throughout their cancer journeys.

Leanne’s commitment extends far beyond the hospital. Whether she’s riding in the Courage Classic to support pediatric cancer care, or advocating for advancements in treatment, she’s passionate about creating a brighter future for kids with cancer.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new treatment option for select adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) who haven't been treated before. ❤️

If you or someone you love is facing CLL or SLL, that's one more option on the table, and one more reason for hope.

This didn't happen by chance. Years ago, we helped fund the research that taught scientists how these cancers grow, the science this treatment is built on.

Today, we're funding what comes next: ways to pair treatments like this one with others so people can stay in remission even longer.

This is what investment in science looks like. This is what collective action makes possible.

This one is worth saving.❤️

Words from someone who is in it right now. Alana is two treatments into her Hodgkin lymphoma care, with a two-year-old and a three-year-old at home and a partner carrying the load during treatment weeks.

Her first round, she pushed herself. Her second round, she rested a lot more, and it went better. So her first piece of advice is to let yourself rest on the days your body asks for it.

Her second piece of advice is to lean on the people who are carrying it with you.

And her third piece of advice is to find one small thing to look forward to on treatment day. For Alana, it's her outfit of the day.

In her words: "These little things help, but there's no way to do this besides just going through it and figuring out what works for you."

You don't have to figure it out alone.

If you are navigating a blood cancer experience, our mental wellness resources are here for you whenever you need them ⬇️

Meet Wayne Sharrah, a 2027 Visionary of the Year Candidate!

After being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2024, Wayne faced chemotherapy, CAR-T cell therapy, a second blood cancer diagnosis, and ultimately a stem cell transplant from his youngest son.

Today, Wayne is using his second chance to help create more second chances for others facing blood cancer.

He’s saying yes to everything—and saying YES to becoming a Visionary. His mission? To help ensure more patients hear the words: “We have another option.”

Welcome to the 2027 Visionaries family, Wayne! ❤️

One year ago today, Rylee’s life changed forever.

On August 6, 2025, at just 5 years old, Rylee was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Since that day, she has endured countless hospital stays, lumbar punctures, blood and platelet transfusions, chemotherapy, and two rounds of blinatumomab—all with a strength and resilience that inspire everyone who meets her.

Today, as we recognize one year since her diagnosis, we’re honored to introduce Rylee as our 2027 Visionaries of the Year Honored Hero. While she still has a long journey ahead, with hopes of ringing the bell in October 2027, she continues to smile, dance, dream, and remind us all that hope can shine even in the hardest moments.

Throughout this year’s Visionaries of the Year campaign, we’ll have the privilege of sharing Rylee’s story—not only to honor her incredible courage, but the resilience of her entire family. The entire family’s commitment to raising awareness will help fund live saving research, and get us one step closer to a world where no else has to face a cancer diagnosis.❤️

Please join us in welcoming Rylee and her family to the 2027 Visionaries family. We can’t wait to stand beside you every step of the way. 💛🎗️
