EU Nominates Disability Rights Expert to UN Committee

Inmaculada Placencia Porrero, with over 30 years of experience advancing disability policies and legislation, has been nominated by the European Union as a candidate to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Her expertise in accessibility, new technologies, independent living, education, and employment will greatly contribute to the Committee's work. Placencia Porrero's background in EU-wide cooperation is invaluable for promoting mutual learning among states.

Canada Adopts EN 301 549 Standard for Accessible ICT Products and Services

The European harmonized standard EN 301 549 outlines comprehensive accessibility requirements for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products and services. It covers functional performance, generic requirements, ICT with two-way voice communication, video capabilities, hardware, web content, non-web documents, and software. This globally recognized standard aims to remove barriers for people with disabilities by ensuring ICT is accessible, usable, and inclusive.

Spotlight on COSP17: Advancing Global Disability Rights

The 17th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP17) is set to take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 12-14, 2024. The over-arching theme of the 17th Session is "Rethinking disability inclusion in the current international juncture and ahead of the Summit of the Future."

We are pleased to announce that G3ict will be participating at two Side Events hosted by the World Bank and the Permanent Mission of Chile to the UN. These sessions will provide valuable opportunities to discuss and promote innovative strategies for accessibility and inclusion.
