Menopause and cancer are connected in more ways than many people realize.

Menopause can affect gynecologic health and cancer risk—and cancer treatment itself can also cause or accelerate menopause. Yet conversations about cancer care and menopause care don’t always happen together.

September 18 marks the second annual Menopause and Cancer Awareness Day, led by the organization, Menopause and Cancer. This year’s Bridge the Gap campaign calls attention to the people who continue to fall through the gaps between cancer care and menopause care—and the need for better information, conversations and support.

As we recognize the day, we’re sharing this resource from EVA’s September in Bloom campaign, which highlights menopause and gynecologic cancers, including an especially important awareness message: Bleeding after menopause is never normal and should be evaluated.

Whether menopause happens naturally or as a result of cancer treatment, people deserve information and care that considers their health and quality of life.

Cervical cancer awareness should lead to action.

đź’‰ Get vaccinated against HPV. Vaccination can prevent infections that cause most cervical cancers.
🔎 Get your recommended cervical screening. Screening can find changes before they become cancer and help detect cancer early.
🩺 Pay attention to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up and seek care.

And talk about it. Gynecologic health shouldn’t be embarrassing or taboo. The more openly we share this information, the more we can encourage the people in our lives to take action too.
