At just 33 years old, our newest Flock recipient is fighting leukemia while raising four children, ages 4 to 13, as a single mom.

Before her diagnosis, she had already fought hard to create a safe, loving and stable home for her children. She worked, sacrificed and carried the financial responsibility of raising her family on her own.

Then came cancer.

Her diagnosis required her to stop working and begin treatment immediately. Now on disability, she is trying to keep up with her mortgage, utilities and the everyday expenses of four growing children while undergoing treatment for leukemia.

But what struck us most wasn't what she is going through. It was who she has always been. Her mom told us, "She remains the kind of person who gives even when she has nothing."

That spirit of giving started long before cancer. In high school, she was recognized for volunteering thousands of hours helping others. Today, even on days when treatment leaves her too weak to get out of bed, she's still thinking about her children and finding ways to make sure they don't miss out on the joys of childhood.

She is a fighter, a giver and a mom whose love for her children knows no bounds.

Today, we're honored to welcome her to our Flock with a $5,000 gift to provide some financial relief during this incredibly difficult chapter.

She's spent so much of her life showing up for others. Now it's our turn to show up for her.

We hope this gift brings a little breathing room, a little joy and the reminder that she has an entire Flock cheering her on.

Before his cancer diagnosis, this Flock recipient was working full time as an over-the-road tanker truck driver, providing for his family while renovating their older home.

Then came stage 3 cancer.

Today, he is undergoing a second, intensive round of chemotherapy, requires oxygen around the clock and has been encouraged by his doctors to focus on quality of life. The home renovation he once planned to finish has remained incomplete, and his family has been living for years with temporary spaces, inadequate heat and a leaking roof.

Through it all, his focus has remained on taking care of his family. He has exhausted his savings, disability benefits and retirement accounts during his cancer battle, but asking for help has never come easily. He held onto the hope that he would recover and return to work for as long as he could.

When we learned his story, we saw so much of the spirit Jennifer hoped to celebrate through Join the Flock: resilience, selflessness and an extraordinary love for family. We are honored to welcome him to our Flock with a $5,000 gift that will help repair his family's roof and make their home safer.

For a man who has spent his life taking care of the people he loves, knowing he can take care of this for his family brought an incredible sense of relief. We hope this gift gives him a little less to worry about and more time and space to focus on what matters most—the people he loves.

This Women’s History Month, we honor Rev. Dr. Tawana Davis, one of our recent Join the Flock recipients and the embodiment of women supporting women.

While courageously facing HER2 metastatic breast cancer, Tawana continues to pour into others, opening her home to those in crisis, supporting survivors of domestic violence, and creating spaces where women feel safe, seen, and never alone. Her ministry has never been confined to a pulpit; it lives in living rooms, hospital rooms, and the everyday moments where people need someone to stand beside them.

Her community describes her as the one who never hesitates, no matter the need, big or small. And in a beautiful reflection of the life she’s lived, that same community is now surrounding her with the love and care she has so freely given.

At Join the Flock, we are honored to stand with Tawana and to support her with a grant to bring a little more stability, peace, and care during this season.

As we continue to grow, so does this special day. Moving to October allows us to align with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, honoring Jennifer’s journey in an even more meaningful way while raising critical funds for families battling cancer.

And this year, we’re elevating the experience at beautiful Brookfield Country Club, a stunning setting worthy of the impact this tournament has made over the past six years.

Six years. More than 100 families supported nationwide. Countless mortgage payments covered. And we’re just getting started.

We started this year with a gift that stopped us in our tracks, a thank-you video from one of our youngest recipients, Isaias, alongside his dad, Jose, and his big brother. And honestly? It’s everything Join the Flock stands for.

At just 3 years old, Isaias is battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, facing hospital stays, treatments, and moments no child should ever have to endure. Yet through it all, he shows a bravery far bigger than his little body, smiling through the hard moments, holding his dad’s hand, and reminding his own family, “It’s okay, I’m brave.”

Isaias loves soccer (a proud Messi fan), climbing trees, and playing the drums like his dad. His joy, courage, and light have carried his family through a season that turned their world upside down. When one parent had to step away from work to be by his side, income dropped, and the weight of uncertainty became overwhelming.

That’s where community steps in.�That’s why Join the Flock exists.

When families are fighting for their child’s life, the last thing they should have to fight is the fear of losing their home or choosing bills over being present at their bedside.

Starting this year with Isaias’ video is a powerful reminder of why we do this work. It’s about hope, stability and presence. And giving families the space to simply be a family wrapped in love, not panic.
