Athens Conservancy Athens Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust that protects and nurtures special spaces and wild places in Athens County and surrounding areas.

Our lands encompass more than 6,200 acres, with more than 5,100 acres open to the public. The Athens Conservancy is a 501 (c) (3) land trust based in Athens County, Ohio.

John Winner, part of the wonderful family whose land donation created the beautiful 106-acre “Winner Woods” Preserve – shows off the preserve’s new-and-improved entrance trail. The original trail to access the land from the parking area was narrow and uneven along a cemetery fence. Thanks to a spring Trail-Building Campaign – and a lot of hard work from our summer stewardship crew – the trail has been moved and vastly improved. It’s now much more level and easier for visitors of all ages to navigate. John and his sister, Lois, were passing through Ohio and stopped to do some hiking and visit with a few of our board members.

Calling Volunteers! Our next monthly volunteer day is Sunday, Aug. 16, and we'd love to have you join us. (Make-up date in case of weather delays is Aug. 23.)
