Last week, PFSCM’s COO, Erin Seidner, and BD Director, Amanda MacDonald, joined health leaders, innovators, and partners at the Africa HealthTech Summit 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Summit brought together stakeholders from across the continent and beyond to explore how technology, partnerships, and innovation can help strengthen health systems and expand access to quality healthcare.

For PFSCM, conversations like these are closely connected to the work we do every day - strengthening health supply chains and helping ensure countries and health programs have reliable access to the products and technologies they need.
Meeting the current health tech innovators in Africa and learning about their great ideas and potential solutions was eye-opening. From these conversations, our takeaway is to continue finding ways for PFSCM to be part of the solution- supporting these innovative health tech companies to scale their proven products and offer sustainable solutions.

Trade, not aid, should be coupled with more nuances that address core development needs, with initiatives led by Africa.

Scale can make global health procurement more efficient. But greater standardization doesn’t automatically lead to stronger delivery.

The challenge is knowing what to standardize globally - and where local context needs to shape the approach.

Every country operates differently. Import requirements, procurement cycles, infrastructure and operational constraints all influence what works in practice.

Over 20 years, we’ve learned that regional expertise helps bridge the gap between global procurement strategies and the realities of implementation.

When these partners work together with shared objectives, they can respond more effectively to changing needs, overcome complex challenges, and improve access to quality-assured health products.

Strong partnerships don't just make supply chains more efficient—they make them more resilient, sustainable, and better equipped to deliver lasting impact.

Reliable access to quality-assured diagnostics, medicines, and laboratory products is fundamental to strengthening hepatitis programs. Strategic procurement, quality assurance, and resilient supply chains help ensure these essential health products reach the people who need them, while improving efficiency, reducing waste, and delivering better value for limited healthcare resources.

An important milestone in expanding access to innovative TB diagnostics across 13 participating countries.
PFSCM has successfully supported the first country implementations of the Pluslife near point-of-care (nPOC) molecular TB diagnostic platform in Benin, Uganda, and Zambia.

The first country implementations represent the successful transition from supply chain readiness to implementation following months of coordination across sourcing, quality assurance, logistics, supplier engagement, and country planning.

The first deliveries included:
📍 Benin – Delivery of equipment and consumables to support implementation at approximately 10 sites.
📍 Uganda – Delivery of hundreds of Pluslife MiniDock systems, auxiliary equipment, controls, and enough tests to run more than 10,000 TB tests for distribution to approximately 220 health facilities.
📍 Zambia – Delivery of 134 Pluslife MiniDock systems, 55 Thermolyze units, 226 controls, and 6,500 TB tests.

PFSCM Logistics Manager Elena Feldsherova says:
"These first deployments required detailed shipment planning, documentation, supplier readiness, transport optimization, and close coordination across multiple stakeholders.
That preparation helped ensure the products moved efficiently through the international supply chain and reached countries ready for implementation."

These first country implementations provide an important foundation for rollout across the remaining participating countries.

Issued following a successful onsite inspection by the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate, the certification confirms PFSCM's compliance with European Union GDP guidelines for medicinal products for human use.

GDP certification establishes the standard for ensuring the quality and integrity of medicines throughout sourcing, handling, storage, transportation, and distribution activities, helping ensure that health products remain safe and effective from manufacturer to end user.

Adding GDP certification to PFSCM's ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 20400 adherence, Model Quality Assurance System for Procurement Agencies (MQAS) compliance, and Wholesale Distribution Authorization (WDA) further strengthens our position as a trusted global supply chain partner.

Over the past 20 years, we've learned that embedding sustainable procurement into the procurement cycle requires a structured process adapted to the realities of delivering supply chain solutions in complex, resource-constrained environments.

At PFSCM, we aligned our procurement processes with the ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement standard—an internationally recognized framework that helps strengthen procurement practices while balancing value for money.

Along the way, four lessons have stood out:
✔ Integration matters – Embed procurement considerations from the planning and sourcing stages.

Health security depends on more than strong health systems, laboratories and surveillance networks. It also depends on resilient health supply chains that ensure essential health products and technologies are available where and when they are needed.

When outbreaks occur, there is little time to build procurement systems, supplier networks, logistics partnerships and emergency operating procedures from scratch. Organizations that have already established these capabilities can move significantly faster.

As emerging infectious diseases continue to pose global threats, pandemic preparedness and health security will remain critical priorities for governments, donors, and health organizations worldwide.
