Beginning Acrylic Painting

In this course, students can expect to begin their painting journey. the purpose of this class is to provide students with a solid foundation in the basics of acrylic painting techniques. By creating alla prima (in one sitting) still life paintings, students will learn about the materials, the power of values, how to properly mix colors, underpainting, composition and priming, finishing, and displaying paintings.

Each class will have a clear objective that focuses on a different aspect of acrylic painting. Students can expect to complete one painting per class. Through hands-on practice and guidance from the instructor, students will develop their creativity and artistic skills, gaining confidence in their ability to express themselves through acrylic painting.

Tuesdays, November 10th- December 22nd. (No class Nov 24th).
Hours: 6:00- 8:00 PM

Random Weave Basket Class

Create a one-of-a-kind basket!

Learn a freeform weaving technique with no set pattern- creating a beautiful basket approximately 8 to 10 inches in width. This class has been described by previous students as "relaxing and enjoyable".

Rose Glenn will be your instructor- she has been weaving and teaching basketry for over 30 years.

Introducing "Graceful Gems" by local artist Shelley Davis- 💎💎💎

"After retiring from the U.S. Air Force with 24 years of active service, mostly as a personnel specialist, she continues to serve as a civilian contract specialist on Langley AFB.

Her sister got her started on making jewelry, over 8 years ago! It's a lot of fun, and she likes being creative, and seeing people enjoying her creations. She does various vendor shows throughout the year.

She started volunteering at The Yorktown Arts Foundation in 2015."

Working primarily with acrylics, she enjoys capturing a wide variety of subjects, with a focus on landscapes, both near and far.

People, Places & Things: an intermediate painting class with Sean "Teach" Strickland

Designed for students that have a firm grasp of the basics of their chosen medium (acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, etc.). This class focuses on elevating your skills through the study of genre painting- still lifes, landscapes, and portraits.

Throughout the course, you will:
-explore composition strategies and creative ideas
-learn to generate and use source material
-transfer images to your painting surface
-strengthen your understanding of value, color, perspective and lighting
-finish and display your completed works

November 11- December 23 on Wednesdays, 6-8 PM.
(No class on November 25th.)
Tuition: $250.

"Beautiful"- this word, written in Chinese, perfectly captures a golden painting of black-capped chickadees by artist Terry Cox-Joseph.

"I knew I wanted to be an artist since I was in preschool. My mentors were Walt Disney, all of the Wyeths, Wesley Dennis, and Charles Dana Gibson, among others.

I love the fluidity of watercolor, the nimble aspects of acrylic paint, the blending quality of oil, and the simplicity and contrast of graphite. I love it all.

Animals and nature are what I paint for fun when I am not working on commissions."
