Last Thursday we shared something that's been on our hearts — the idea of bringing the conversation about homelessness in Anoka off the comment section and into community. Nearly 100 of you let us know you were interested, and we're grateful for that more than we can say!

We're moving forward. Compassion Conversations will be a monthly gathering at the coffeehouse where city and county leaders, local nonprofits, and community members can come together to listen, learn, and work toward real solutions for our unhoused neighbors. These conversations will be hosted and led by Compassion Coffee. Drinks are on us.

Our first conversation is Thursday, July 30th from 6:30–8:30pm. Space is limited to 30 people each month to keep the conversations focused and productive, so we encourage you to register soon. Please limit to registering for one event for now so everyone has an opportunity to make it to an in-person event. We're also planning to live stream each conversation on Facebook and YouTube.

There's been a lot of conversation online recently about homelessness in the Anoka area. Homelessness in the suburbs is closer to home than many realize — and the conversation around it deserves more than a comment section.

We're considering hosting an evening at the coffeehouse to bring that conversation off-line and into community. Drinks are on us.

What to expect:

We're working to bring together voices from the City of Anoka, Anoka County, and local nonprofits doing this work — to share data and ground-level insights on suburban homelessness in our area. From there, we'll open the floor for discussion around one of the harder questions: what does it actually look like to show genuine compassion while also holding space for accountability?

We believe in the power of community — and right now, our community has a chance to do something meaningful!

Family Promise in Anoka County is opening a Guest House in C**n Rapids that will provide overnight shelter for 8 families, creating a permanent, dignified solution to family homelessness in Anoka County.

As a practical way to show compassion, we're hosting a supply drive for their most-needed items. The guest house opens in July, and we'd love your support stocking their shelves!

Now through June 27, bring any of the following to the coffeehouse:

✅ Laundry detergent
✅ Full-size body wash
✅ 40-gallon trash bags
✅ Bathroom sink hand soap (refillable containers)

We’re excited to share that we have hired a Community Pastor!
