Today marks the first day of Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.
🎗️While the month of September focuses on awareness, prevention, and connecting people to help, it is also important that we remember the grief left behind after a su***de loss.
🎗️Su***de doesn’t only impact the person who dies. It leaves families, friends, children, parents, classmates, and entire communities trying to make sense of a loss that can carry layers of sadness, anger, guilt, unanswered questions, and sometimes even stigma.
🎗️At The Mending Hearts Initiative, we believe those grieving a su***de loss deserve safe spaces to talk about their person, process their grief without judgment, and be reminded that they do not have to carry it alone.
🎗️Throughout September, we encourage you to check on your people, have the uncomfortable conversations, listen without judgment, and know where to turn for help. Connection matters. Support matters.
🎗️If you or someone you know is struggling:
Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Support is free, confidential, and available 24/7. (988 Lifeline)
And for those navigating grief and loss, Mending Hearts offers spaces for healing and connection:
🦋The Healing Circle: our hybrid grief support group for adults
🦋Young Hearts Healing: our grief and loss support program for youth ages 11–18, recognizing that grief and loss extend beyond death
🎗️This month, we remember those we have lost, hold space for those left behind, and continue working toward a community that bands together during tough times.
