Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) is dedicated to the emotional and physical rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing. PHWFF uses Fly Tying workshops and Fly Fishing outings as therapies to help participants recover from their physical and emotional injuries. To accomplish our mission in Alaska, PHWFF has partnered in Anchorage

Military culture teaches resilience.

Keep moving.
Keep pushing.
Figure it out.

Those qualities save lives in uniform.

But after service, they can also make it incredibly difficult to ask for help.

Project Healing Waters exists because healing isn't weakness. It's strength shared with others.

If you know a Veteran who could benefit from a community that understands, tell them about us. Sometimes one conversation changes everything.

The best instructors.

The best fly casting instructors aren't always the ones with perfect loops.

The best volunteers aren't always the ones who know every knot.

The best mentors aren't always the most experienced anglers.

They're the people who make others feel welcome.

Because nobody remembers how impressive you were.

They remember how you made them feel.

Our ladies spent a day on the Kasilof fishing for salmon. The trip started slow when two ladies were stuck in the Glenn Highway closure, but made it to Kenai before bed time. The weather and the camaraderie was great! The fishing was not. C'est La vie! Thanks to Jack Mister, Mister Kenai Sport Fishing, and Dusty Frederickson of Nauti Dog fishing for the wonderful day. Stay tuned for the next event! 🎣🎣🎣🐟🐟🐟🏞️🏞️🏞️

Did you know fly fishing requires you to slow down?

Watching the current, reading the water, noticing insect activity, adjusting your presentation. It's one of the few activities that naturally encourages patience and presence. You can't rush a river. For many Veterans, that's part of what makes fly fishing so powerful. For a few hours, the distractions fade away. The only thing that matters is the next cast.
