44 households, individuals, families, children. People who might live on your street, or went to school with you, or grew up in your town. There are still thousands more. We celebrate these 44 and we won't stop until no Long Islander faces the injustice of homelessness.

We hear it all the time. "Why don't homeless people just get jobs and leave the shelter?" They do. Many are working full time. But on Long Island, shelters aren't free. When 90% of your income goes to shelter costs, it becomes a constant cycle of never being able to save enough to get out. Long before organizations like ours existed, there were people who looked around and decided no one should have to sleep outside because of who they are. Honestly, that's not too different from how LICH got started. Today we're honoring some of the people who helped pave the way. They knew firsthand what it meant to need a place, and they didn't stop fighting until others had one.

Last month, The Boutique had 286appointments and referrals, reaching 713 neighbors right here on Long Island, from infants to seniors.

And while we are proud of every single one of those neighbors, that number is a reminder of how deep the need runs on Long Island, and it is only growing. The Boutique provides resources, referrals, and a place to land. It is not housing. And the need for housing is real, it is local, and it is urgent.

On the surface our Street Medicine Program is about medical care. But it's about so much more than that. It's about showing up, building trust, and making sure our neighbors know they are seen and they are not alone. News 12 Long Island 12 rode along with our team to see the work we are doing alongside Northwell Health to bring care directly to our unhoused neighbors across Long Island. Legislator Debra Mulé came to visit the Coalition this week! She toured our space and we got to talk about how we're showing up for Long Islanders and how we can serve even more of our neighbors. Oh, and of course she got to meet Milo too. We are so grateful for her support and for everyone who continues to show up for our community. 🫶 ♥
