Window on a Wider World is committed to enhancing the knowledge of classroom core curriculum by providing experiential learning opportunities.

From the beginning of the fundraising process to build the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, the board, staff and donors realized there was an opportunity to make a tremendous impact on how our children learn through and with arts and cultural programming. During construction over $1.3 million was given to the future education program, and nationwide research was initiated to find a successful program of arts education for children. After several metamorphoses, ArtsPartners, a program of Big Thought in Dallas, Texas, was chosen as the program to model. During this process, donors from throughout the area expressed interest in supporting an education program that would benefit children in rural areas. Due to this interest and support, WOWW will benefit every elementary school student in the Texas Panhandle

National Arts & Humanities Month includes both, and so does WOWW. Alongside music and visual art, we connect students to history, culture, and the stories that shape our region. Understanding where we come from is part of a complete education, and it sticks longer when students can see and touch it.

You don’t have to be a pro golfer to play for a good cause. The Beyond the Green Virtual Golf Tournament is open to everyone, and we would love to see you there. Here is the best part: it is virtual. You and a partner will tee off on the simulator at Amarillo Golf Club (yes, you can play Pebble Beach), climate controlled and rain or shine, no sunburn required. It is a two-person scramble, so every skill level is welcome, from the weekend regular to the person who has not swung a club since high school. Best of all, every team helps bring arts, science, and cultural experiences to Panhandle students. Saturday, October 24. Just $125 per player or $250 per team, and only 24 teams will make the field. Grab a friend, a coworker, or your better half and claim your spot before they are gone.

None of this happens alone. Through WOWW, the Amarillo Symphony brings students face to face with live orchestral music, the kind of experience that is hard to imagine until you feel it in the room. It is where math, history, and artistry meet, tied right back to the classroom.

Through WOWW, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens turns science into something students can watch growing in front of them, from the life cycle of a ladybug to the work of pollinators. Programs run as field trips and as visits that come to the classroom, all tied to science curriculum. Learning that is alive, literally.
