❤️💛💚 Honoring Juneteenth & Choosing Safety This Weekend 💚💛❤️

Today, we recognize Juneteenth — a day of freedom, reflection, resilience, and community.

As many gather this weekend to celebrate with family, friends, food, music, and events, Andrea’s Project encourages everyone to celebrate safely.

🚗 Make your plan while you are sober.
Once alcohol or substances are involved, decision-making changes — so decide before the celebration starts how you will get home safely.

Safe options include:

🚘 Choose a designated driver
📱 Use a rideshare like Uber or Lyft
🚕 Call a taxi or local ride service
🏠 Stay the night where you are
👯 Go with a friend who agrees to stay sober
📞 Call someone you trust for a ride

🛑 Take keys away from someone who should not drive

A safe ride is always better than a tragic ending.

This weekend, celebrate freedom, community, and life — and help make sure everyone gets home safely. ❤️

It’s That Easy Not 2 Drink and Drive — P.S. I Love You.

Driving while intoxicated continues to be a serious concern in Amarillo, but the work being done by the Amarillo Police Department’s new impaired driving unit is making a difference.

Every DWI arrest represents more than a statistic. It may be a crash prevented, a family protected, and a life saved. By identifying impaired drivers before they cause harm, officers are helping prevent injuries, fatalities, and lifelong consequences for everyone on our roads.

Andrea’s Project is grateful for the continued commitment of APD, the impaired driving unit, and our community partners who are working together to make Amarillo safer.

Please make a plan before you drink. Use a designated driver, rideshare, taxi, or call someone you trust.

It really is that easy not to drink and drive.

The Amarillo Police Department says driving while intoxicated remains a significant concern in the city, with officers reporting a sharp increase in DWI arrests compared to last year.

It’s never worth it to drink and drive.

Make your plan before you take the first drink — when you’re sober and thinking clearly.

✅ Call a sober friend
✅ Use a rideshare
✅ Designate a driver
✅ Stay where you are
✅ Hand over your keys

No one leaves home planning to hurt or kill someone — or to go to prison. But one impaired decision can change everything.

Protect yourself, your friends, and everyone on the road. 💙🤟

Another impaired driving crash. Another life changed in an instant.

Early this morning, an Amarillo Police Department officer was injured after an allegedly intoxicated driver struck a patrol vehicle. Thankfully, the officer was treated and released, but this crash serves as another reminder that impaired driving impacts our entire community.

Every choice to drive impaired puts lives at risk—law enforcement officers, first responders, families, friends, and innocent motorists traveling our roads.

At Andrea’s Project, we believe prevention starts before the keys are in hand. Plan ahead. Use a designated driver. Call a ride. Stay where you are. One decision can prevent a tragedy.

We are grateful for the officers who put themselves in harm’s way every day to keep our community safe, and we wish the injured officer a full recovery.

Impaired driving is 100% preventable.

Andrea’s Project is proud to be attending the 2026 Safety Expo hosted for school districts across Region 16!

Our Executive Director, Dr James, is connecting with educators, administrators, school safety professionals, and community partners to share how Andrea’s Project can support schools and communities in preventing impaired driving and reducing youth substance use.

Through evidence-based prevention education, youth leadership opportunities, community partnerships, and interactive programming, we work to help young people make healthy choices while creating safer schools and communities throughout the Texas Panhandle.

If you’re attending the Expo, stop by and learn more about how we can partner together to protect and empower the next generation.
