🌟 It Takes a Village: Meet Amanda Young! 🌟

At BCRC, our people are at the heart of everything we do. In this edition of It Takes a Village, we’re shining the spotlight on Amanda Young, an Employment Specialist/DSP who has spent the past 10 years making a difference through BCRC’s WIN Services.

Amanda works hands-on with individuals with intellectual disabilities, helping them build life skills and put those skills into practice through real-world experiences and community outings.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 π‘¨π’Žπ’‚π’π’…π’‚ π’†π’π’‹π’π’š π’Žπ’π’”π’• 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 π’˜π’π’“π’Œ? The people.
She loves the many personalities, strengths, interests, and senses of humor of the individuals she supportsβ€”and the opportunity to experience each day alongside them.

Amanda first discovered BCRC through Indeed when she was just 19. She was looking for her first β€œbig girl job” and knew that a position helping people was right up her alley. Ten years later, she continues to find purpose and fulfillment in the relationships she has built and the progress she has witnessed.

For Amanda, making a difference means seeing individuals grow in confidence, strength, and ability. She takes pride in gently encouraging people to step outside their routines, try something new, and discover new interestsβ€”even if sometimes they discover something they don’t enjoy!

Her motivation each day is simple: having fun, laughing, and spending time with people she genuinely enjoys. Amanda also appreciates the diversity of her BCRC team. Different backgrounds, experiences, interests, and approaches create opportunities for everyone to learn, grow, and adaptβ€”something she believes is essential to the work we do.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys going to the movies, playing bingo and Settlers of Catan, swimming, and spending time with friends.
A few fun facts: she has three cats πŸˆβ€β¬›, loves steak and potatoes, and has spent 10 of her 29 years (of her life) working in WIN Services!

On August 12, BCRC proudly hosted the ribbon-cutting for Beaver County Voices of Independenceβ€”a community-driven oral history and multimedia exhibit developed through the America250 initiative.

During the opening ceremony, BCRC Executive Director Lesley Hallas shared a powerful reminder:

This exhibit celebrates the people whose work, creativity, resilience & everyday contributions have shaped Beaver County. It also ensures that people with intellectual & developmental disabilities are recognized as historians, artists, interviewers, creators, workers, advocates, neighbors & valued citizens.

What a wonderful kickoff to Beaver County Voices of Independence this week. We could not have brought this vision to life without participants, community members, Pacer, and so many other contributors.

The Beaver County Voices of Independence project is a community-driven oral history and multimedia exhibit developed as part of the America250 initiative. The project explores what independence means through the voices and experiences of Beaver County residents from all walks of life, while highlighting the importance of inclusion, opportunity, resilience, and community connection.
