Giving Tuesday is HERE! Please support us so that we can help those who cannot help themselves. Here is some information about one of our Ministries in Aliquippa PA.
MISSION
The Uncommon Grounds Cafe program of Church Army USA (CAUSA) exists to:
• provide intentional opportunities for community members to meet one another,
• build relationships with one another, and then
• use those relationships to better the community.
All of Uncommon Grounds Cafe resources actively contribute to the enhancement of our community either through individual development or cooperative networking and development. We do this by providing opportunities such as Getting Ahead, our monthly Veteran’s Breakfast, and the cultivation of our community garden and greenhouse located in the center of downtown.
COMMUNITY HUB
Uncommon Grounds café serves as a community hub and safe space to those in the Aliquippa community who are still reeling from the closure of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill as well as the challenges that life presents. The café provides both a place to discuss those challenges as well as a space to find help in moving ahead and upward.
The cafe serves as a location where social workers meet with their clients to help them with whatever struggles they are dealing with. Additionally, parole officers use the facility to assist those who have been incarcerated and are seeking to better their lives. The problems that are addressed at the café by staff and community social workers alike are:
• Addiction.
• Mental Health recovery and training
• Homelessness
• Food needs
• Job training
• Community development
We accomplish this by partnering with the following organizations:
• Beaver County Mental Health Association
• Aliquippa Economic Development Corporation (AEDC)
• Beaver County Jail
• Gateway Rehabilitation Services
By listening and helping without judging we are a valuable resource for those who are often overlooked by society.
