DLeNM was founded in response to requests for
technical assistance by teachers and schools, founded in 2000.

Dual Language Education of New Mexico (DLeNM) is a New Mexico-based, nonprofit organization working with schools and educators nationally and internationally to develop, support, and advocate for high-quality dual language bilingual education. DLeNM is a non-profit organization serving the professional and informational needs of New Mexican
communities who wish to develop, refine and/or implement dual language
education programs.

Meet Presenter Emy Tomita!

Emy Tomita is a dual language educator with 16 years of experience supporting multilingual learners. She has served as a teacher, librarian, language arts resource teacher, and, for the past six years, a bilingual district literacy coach in Aldine ISD. She holds a master’s degree in Bilingual Education, a graduate certificate in Bilingual Special Education, and is a doctoral candidate in Bilingual Education at Texas A&M University–Kingsville.

Meet Presenter: Maria Mercado!

With 24 years of experience across elementary and secondary education, Ms. Mercado has dedicated her career to ESL, bilingual, and dual language instruction. A former Coaching Specialist, a current Instructional Specialist, and children's book author, Maria is deeply passionate about advancing educational equity and building meaningful relationships that foster a sense of belonging, the foundation critical to student learning.

Dr. Angela Palmieri is a dual language education teacher and administrator, lecturer, reading specialist, and consultant with over twenty-six years of experience as a scholar-practitioner in the education field. She is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of the Institute for Multilingual Education (IME), an organization whose mission is to help create a multilingual society by helping schools and districts develop, sustain, and evaluate equity driven, high-quality, and research-based TK-12 dual language education and world language programs. Angela is proudly part of the highly lauded Multilingual Education and Global Achievement (MEGA) team at the San Diego County Office of Education, where she serves as Coordinator in the department.

Get ready, La Cosecha! 🍎 We’re excited to welcome Helga Fasciano to La Cosecha 2026!

Former North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Section Chief for Arts Education, ESL and Title III, Healthful Living, Student Support Services and World Languages. Managed Title III and three Foreign Language Assistance Grants including Statewide Infrastructure to Support Dual Language/Immersion programs. Appointed as the Special Assistant for Global Education to manage the North Carolina State Board of Education Strategic Global Plan in the expansion plan/vision for public school dual language/immersion programs through research projects, professional development, policy and legislation, collaboration with universities on licensure and certification for teachers/ administrators and establishment of a North Carolina Seal of Biliteracy. Currently providing consultation for strategic planning, implementation and sustainability of global, world language and dual language/immersion initiatives at national, state, district and school levels.
