Christmas Storybook Land

Christmas Storybook Land Christmas Storybook Land gives people of all ages a fun and free holiday event to enjoy! The “Dream”
In 1976 Don Albright, an Albany resident, had a dream.

That dream was shared with Gary Dahlinger and Terry Houdek and in 1977 the Albany community was able to view that dream for the first time. That first year there were 15 scenes:

Old McDonald’s Farm
Little Bo Peep
Winnie the Pooh
Three Little Kittens
Three Little Pigs
The Nativity
Hansel & Gretel
Snoopy & Friends
Little Miss Muffett
Jack in the Beanstalk
Mickey & Friends
The Night Before Christmas

Hickory Dickory Dock
A Church with Carolers
Mary Had A Little Lamb & School House

For the first few years a walking bear and other walking animals strolled the walkway and Santa greeted visitors while seated in a real sled. We have added many scenes—over 80 now—since those first years. Some of those original scenes may disappear, be updated and then reappear in a brand new way in a later season. Also new scenes are being added each year. So keep watching! Since that 1977 beginning Christmas Storybook Land has continued to survive and thrive with the help of hundreds of volunteers and businesses in our community who have given of their time and talents as well as donations of money and/or materials. Although our displays are FREE and non-commercial, we have encouraged canned food donations for the needy in our local communities. Over the years we have collected thousands of canned food items and commercially packaged foods that were given to FISH for distribution to those in need. Incorporation
In 1980 Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Oregon and Christmas Storybook Land was granted a non-profit organization status under section 501(c) (3) which exists to this day. Ultimate Goal
Christmas Storybook Land’s originators had an ultimate goal, and it is still a goal—that sometime in the future we can have a permanent building of our own and can leave these scenes set up for year around viewing.

🎄 A Call for Community Help: Restoring a Piece of Christmas Magic 🎄

For nearly 50 years, Christmas Storybook Land has brought holiday memories to generations of families. As we prepare for our 50th Anniversary Season in 2026, we’re working to restore one of the cherished pieces that came to us through the Pastega Lights transition—the iconic church and steeple.

As you can see in these photos, time and weather have taken their toll on the roof and steeple. We are looking for a Benton County roofer, contractor, or skilled volunteer who would be willing to help us repair and restore this beloved display piece so it can continue bringing joy to our community for years to come.

We are especially seeking:
✔️ Roofing expertise
✔️ Donated or spare roofing materials
✔️ Volunteers willing to assist with repairs
✔️ Community partners who want to help preserve this local holiday tradition

Every donation of time, talent, or materials helps keep the magic alive for the more than 49,000 guests who visit Christmas Storybook Land each season.

If you would like to help, please email us at:

Thank you for helping us preserve the memories, traditions, and holiday spirit that have made Christmas Storybook Land a treasured part of our community for five decades.

❤️ Together, we can make sure this special church and steeple are ready to shine again next Christmas.

Today we remember and honor Larry Burke, who recently passed away.
For decades, Larry was a dedicated volunteer with Christmas Storybook Land, generously giving his time, talents, and heart to help create holiday memories for countless families in our community. His commitment, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed made a lasting difference and helped shape the tradition that Christmas Storybook Land has become.
This photo captures a special moment of recognition for Larry’s many years of service—a reflection of the appreciation so many felt for his contributions.
Larry’s legacy will live on through the joy he helped bring to generations of visitors and volunteers alike. We are grateful for the time we shared with him and for the example he set through a lifetime of service.
Please keep Larry’s wife Karen, his family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time.
Thank you, Larry. You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever a part of the Christmas Storybook Land family. ❤️
