Saying goodbye and expressing gratitude --

For the past 2 ½ years, it has been our honor and pleasure to serve the Albany community, help bring awareness, and engage your help through volunteerism and thoughtful donation of items to share love and meet a whole lot of needs for the vulnerable population we serve.

Our people, who we have had the privilege of loving and coming alongside of on their journey, will be with us always. We hope you will continue to show them love and care.

We are so grateful for all our community partners who have worked tirelessly alongside of us.

Gratefully,
Emma, Allison, Leigh, Christopher & Scott

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12

Last year we applied for funds through the City of Albany's Community Development Block Grant and were awarded those funds to replace our leaking dormitory roof.

We put a call out to the community to help cover the remaining cost of the project.

The community generously donated a little over $30,000 to replace our roof.

THANK YOU for making a big difference!

Person First:

People experiencing homelessness are individuals first with unique personalities, strengths and challenges. No one wants to be lumped into a stereotypical group as though a generality can adequately or accurately describe one's individuality. For this reason, we, at Albany Helping Hands, use "person first language". We invite you to also use person centric language when describing individuals experiencing homelessness whether communicating verbally or in writing. This approach will help us recognize all people as individuals first and will show all people respect.

People first means we describe or mention the person first...then use a descriptor – people experiencing homelessness or someone who is unsheltered or unhoused. This is a good idea when talking about people experiencing any challenge (health challenges, developmental disabilities, financial difficulties, etc.).
