This week we welcomed a very special guest speaker, Leigh Matthews Bock, Development Director for Home Life. Leigh shared the important work Home Life does to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.

And yes, she also happens to be our Rotary President's wife—proof that sometimes the best way to get a great speaker is to check who's sitting across the dinner table! 😄

Thank you, Leigh, for sharing your passion and the incredible impact of Home Life!

And that’s a wrap! The Rotary Club of Albany and the Greater Rotary Club of Albany were delighted to once again host Texas 4000. These kids ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for cancer research and cures. We annually host them as they pass through Albany. It is a lot of laughs, cheers, food, showers, laundry and sleep, but so worth it. See you next year Texas 4000 and safe travels to Anchorage!

For the past two weeks, our club enjoyed learning from Dr. Tim Reid about the history of Reid Veterinary Hospital and its generations of service to our community. We also had the chance to meet his sons, Harrison Reid and Sawyer Reid, who are carrying on the family legacy. It was a fascinating look at a longtime Albany institution! 🐾

This week we had the pleasure of hearing from John Anderson at the Boys & Girls Club of Albany, who shared about the incredible programs the Club offers youth in our community. It was inspiring to learn more about the many ways they are working to support and reach kids who can benefit from their services.

One especially wonderful update was about Santiago, one of the students who attended RYLA. Jonathan shared how impactful that experience was for him—since then, Santiago has stepped into leadership opportunities and was even named Youth of the Year.

It’s amazing to see young people like Santiago thrive, and a great reminder of the important work the Boys & Girls Club is doing to help youth build confidence, leadership skills, and bright futures.
