Today we remember a legendary Virginia Soap Box Derby Legend, Tuffy Hicks, who recently passed away. Tuffy brought back Soap Box Derby to City of Fredericksburg, Virginia after 25 long years of not racing. 🏁

He loved his community, brought many people along his journey, and helped re-establish Rappahannock Regional Soap Box Derby as a staple in the Derby community. Tuffy worked for the Fredericksburg City Council for 18 years and with the help of Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events, he ensured that this sport would flourish with support from community leaders. He was deservingly elected to the Fredericksburg Recreation Hall of Fame. Mr. Hicks also published over 400 historical pieces for the Fredericksburg Free Press.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.

Still thinking about applying for the International Soap Box Derby’s Youth Professional Leadership Council? YPLC applications are now open through Friday, September 4 to current and past Derby racers ages 13–30.

YPLC brings together young racers and alumni to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas while helping shape the future of the International Soap Box Derby.

The FirstEnergy team spent the day experiencing the Soap Box Derby, from taking on the track to exploring the Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame and Museum. A look back at the 2026 Corporate Derby Challenge presented by Bobit!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Derby Downs last Thursday and Friday for two days of racing, competition and fun. We loved seeing teams come together and take on the hill!

Here’s to another great Corporate Derby Challenge in the books. We hope to see everyone back at Derby Downs again next year!
