Parkinson Society Singapore Welcome to Parkinson Society Singapore's Official page. Stay updated with news and information related to our Society and Parkinson.

Parkinson Society Singapore (PSS) was formed on 16 December 1996 by a group of doctors and caregivers to help people living with Parkinson. The society was registered as a charity on 28 January 2000 and is a member of National Council of Social Service (NCSS). Since then, the Society has organized a number of programmes including annual public forums, therapeutic exercise programmes and social and

recreational activities, aimed at improving the lives of People with Parkinson (PwP). The Society also works closely with support groups in various hospitals and publishes newsletters and books to raise the awareness of Parkinson. In Singapore, three out of every 1000 individuals aged 50 years and above have Parkinson. The number of PwP is expected to go up in our rapidly ageing population.

What does a key represent to you? 🔑

Yesterday, members explored the importance of Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) through an engaging sharing by a lawyer & financial advisor.

From those who had already completed their LPA to those learning about it for the first time, members actively asked questions & reflected on their values, beliefs & wishes for the future.

A memorable highlight was when the speaker liken LPA to a key that unlocks the powers needed to protect our wishes & manage our assets. Members were each given a safe to unlock, bringing this important message to life.

✅ Planning ahead isn’t always easy, but it can bring clarity & peace of mind for ourselves & our loved ones.

See you at our next PSS ConnACT on Tue, 21 Jul!

This week at KEEP Well, caregivers explored the topic of ‘Learning to Cope Through Loss, Grief & Difficult Emotions’.

The session began with an emotion card activity, where caregivers reflected on life before Parkinson, when their loved one was first diagnosed & where they are today. The activity sparked heartfelt sharing, with caregivers holding space for one another through empathy & words of encouragement.

We also discussed the dimensions of grief & the 5 stages of grief, recognising that grief is not linear & that all emotions are valid. Most importantly, caregivers were reminded that they are not alone on this journey.

The session concluded with a Loss-Gain Graph activity, encouraging caregivers to acknowledge not only the challenges they face, but also the growth & small milestones worth celebrating along the way.

See you next Mon, 22 Jun for session 3 on caregiver stress & mental health red flags. 🤗
