Parkinson Society Singapore

Parkinson Society Singapore Welcome to Parkinson Society Singapore's Official page. Stay updated with news and information related to our Society and Parkinson.

Parkinson Society Singapore (PSS) was formed on 16 December 1996 by a group of doctors and caregivers to help people living with Parkinson. The society was registered as a charity on 28 January 2000 and is a member of National Council of Social Service (NCSS). Since then, the Society has organized a number of programmes including annual public forums, therapeutic exercise programmes and social and

recreational activities, aimed at improving the lives of People with Parkinson (PwP). The Society also works closely with support groups in various hospitals and publishes newsletters and books to raise the awareness of Parkinson. In Singapore, three out of every 1000 individuals aged 50 years and above have Parkinson. The number of PwP is expected to go up in our rapidly ageing population.

It is important to plan for future housing needs - especially as care needs change over time.

From October 2026, the minimum age to apply for a Community Care Apartment (CCA) will be revised from 65 to 55 years old.

CCAs combine senior-friendly housing with care services to help residents continue living independently while having additional support close at hand.

For our Parkinson community, this means more options to consider when planning for the future. ❤️

❤️Building the Satellite @ Bedok community, one connection at a time.

Our inaugural Community Get-Together Session at Satellite @ Bedok brought together some familiar faces and others who are newer to our community.

We also explored how a strong community can be built from our personal strengths.

This session marked our first sharing of PSS NOWA (No One Walks Alone), a programme centred on members journeying alongside each other.

Members shared their Parkinson journeys and found encouragement in one another. Community starts with what each of us can bring and grows when we are together ❤️

Sometimes, the best way to support a conversation is to slow down & listen.

Parkinson can affect speech, including voice volume, which may make everyday conversations more challenging. By practicing active listening, we maintain eye contact, reduce distractions & give space.

Make communication easier for everyone by truly hearing the individual. 💚🧡

Today marks the official launch of KEEP (Kickstart Exercise and Empower Parkinson's) programme by Lien Foundation. This signifies an important step forward in our vision for more accessible, community-based Parkinson care.

We are honoured to share more about KEEP alongside our partners (NHG Health’s Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) and other SingHealth institutions) and PSS members who have made this initiative possible.

We are also grateful to The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, and 8world for shining a spotlight on KEEP and the future of Parkinson care in Singapore.
