Remembering Jennifer Laude: 12 Years On 🕯️✨

On October 11, 2014, transpinay Jennifer Laude was tragically murdered. Twelve years later, her legacy remains a pivotal turning point in the Filipino LGBTQIA+ rights movement and Filipino q***r history.

Her case laid bare critical systemic issues surrounding transfemicide—from media misgendering and harmful stereotyping to colonial and patriarchal biases embedded in our judicial systems. Yet, Laude’s legacy lives beyond her death, reminding us that transfemicide is a product of compounding, intersecting, and historical circumstances.

Inclusive Careers: Navigating Talent Acquisition and Recruitment 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

As part of STRAP’s special Support Group Meeting (SGM), we invite transpinays, individuals, and allies to join us for a community learning session on navigating talent acquisition and recruitment.

Featuring Ivan Garong, PFIP - Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride Vice-Chair and Talent Acquisition & Recruitment Practitioner, the session will offer practical insights into recruitment processes, what employers look for, and how applicants can better navigate employment opportunities. We’ll also make space to reflect on the experiences and challenges faced by transpinays and gender-diverse applicants.

From community safety and rapid response, to training transpinay documentors, producing policy and research reference, and pushing for stronger accountability, Project Kierra is turning collective action into a national response to transfemicide and anti-trans violence.

💜 PROJECT KIERRA IS NOW LIVE 💜

Today, we open a new digital space for remembrance, documentation, protection, and action.

The Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP) is proud to launch the official Project Kierra website, a growing and living record of our national response to transfemicide and anti-trans violence in the Philippines.

Named in honor of Kierra Apostol, Project Kierra brings together documentation, community protection, researh and advocacy, and pathways toward justice and accountability. 🕯

The website will continue to grow as Project Kierra grows. As the project moves forward, we will be adding new documentation, resources, publications, initiatives, community stories, research, and other materials that contribute to a deeper understanding of transfemicide and anti-trans violence, and strengthen collective action for transpinay safety.

It will also serve as a space where we can continue to remember our sisters, build evidence, share knowledge, connect people to support, and turn documentation into action.

🕯️JUSTICE FOR CRISTIN 🕯️

On September 22, 2026, Cristin, a 21-year-old transpinay from Dasmariñas City, Cavite, was shot by a man. The suspect remains at large and is currently being sought by the police. Beloved by her family and friends, Cristin has since been laid to rest.

Cristin is the 6th transfemicide case documented by the Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP) this year, following Bella, Betty, Jang, Teddy, and Marijune.

STRAP continues to document cases of transfemicide and amplify calls for justice. Transfemicide is a national, widespread issue evidenced by the filing of House Resolution No. 1369 calling for action on violence against transgender people. It demands urgent action.

We call for immediate and tangible legal reform: name transfemicide as an individual crime, strenghthen preventive mechanisms, and reinforce actionable responses towards transgender-based violence.

Justice for Cristin. Justice for every transpinay lost to violence.

Another step in growing our community of transfeminist documentors. ✍🏼🏳️‍⚧️

On September 28, the Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP) through Project Kierra held another Transfeminist Documentation and Justice Training, bringing together transpinays and allies to strengthen our collective capacity to document violence, advance justice, and .

As one of the culminating activities of Project Kierra, this training marks another milestone in building a growing community of trained documentors committed to ensuring that the experiences and struggles of transpinays are documented, recognized, and remembered.

Celebrate community, history, and togetherness! 🏳️‍⚧️✨

Warm welcomes and deep roots! 💖 For our August Support Group Meeting, we kicked off by officially welcoming our new members to the STRAP family. Afterwards, Dr. Jaya Jacobo led a deeply insightful session on trans history in the Philippines—reminding us of the strength and heritage we carry forward. We wrapped up the day the best way we know how: over great food and even better chikka! 🍱💬
