Grateful for the Gift of Compassion and Service 💙

Hemophilia Philippines (HAPLOS Community) Foundation, Inc. extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Women’s League of UST Santisimo Rosario Parish, led by its President, Sis. Alice Sitchon, for its generous donation in support of persons with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

The donation was presented on September 11 during the Catholic Women’s League’s anniversary celebration and was received on behalf of HAPLOS by Mrs. Maria Lourdes D. Formalejo, Past President of HAPLOS, together with other members of the HAPLOS Community.

This meaningful contribution will help us continue our work in patient and family education, community support, and advocacy for better access to comprehensive care for persons with bleeding disorders.

We are deeply grateful for the compassion and solidarity behind this gesture, and especially touched that HAPLOS was included in this meaningful anniversary celebration.

To Sis. Alice and all the officers and members of the Catholic Women’s League, congratulations on your anniversary, and thank you for sharing your blessings with the bleeding disorders community.

September is Blood Diseases Month. 🩸

I came across these old photographs recently, and they reminded me just how long this journey with the hemophilia community has been.

Many years ago, we were already teaching our young patients and their families about home infusion. Looking at these photos now, I see children who have grown up, families who have learned to manage hemophilia, and a community that has grown with them.

As a pediatric hematologist, I have cared for children with bleeding disorders for many years. Hemophilia is also part of my own family’s story, which has made this work deeply personal to me.

Today, as President of Hemophilia Philippines (HAPLOS Community) Foundation Inc, I continue to work toward a future where Filipinos with hemophilia have reliable access to treatment—not only when they bleed, but to prevent bleeding, protect their joints, and allow them to live full and active lives.

We have come a long way. But there is still much to do.

Looking at these old photographs reminds me that change does not happen overnight. It is built over many years, by patients, families, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and advocates who keep moving forward together.

This Blood Diseases Month, we continue that journey. ❤️

💚 Moving Forward Together with HAPLOS Western Visayas (Panay) Chapter

HAPLOS National met with the HAPLOS Western Visayas (Panay) Chapter in Iloilo on August 5, following the online Kumustahan held last July 18.

The visit was an opportunity to move beyond the screen—to reconnect, exchange ideas, and talk about where HAPLOS is as an organization and where we hope to go together.

HAPLOS President Dr. Flerida G. Hernandez shared updates from HAPLOS National, particularly the prganization's ongoing work in advocacy, governance, the patient registry, education, partnerships, and programs for the bleeding disorders community. The discussion also highlighted the important role of the Panay Chapter in identifying and supporting patients and families, strengthening the registry, developing local activities and partnerships, and advocating for better care in Western Visayas.

More importantly, the meeting provided the opportunity to discuss how HAPLOS National can better support its chapters as they grow and respond to the needs of their communities.

HAPLOS extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rhodelyn Besanes-Almenana, President of the Iloilo Medical Society, for graciously accommodating the meeting at the Iloilo Medical Society Building.

HAPLOS is also deeply grateful to Dr. Giselle Alfeche, adult hematologist, Medical Adviser, and staunch supporter of the Panay Chapter, for her continuing commitment to the bleeding disorders community.

Special thanks to Paul Henry V. Duran, Past President of HAPLOS Western Visayas Chapter, and Dr. Briccio F. Parreño III, Officer-in-Charge of the Chapter, for organizing the meeting and bringing everyone together.

HAPLOS also thanks Ms. Kristie Santonil and Multicare Pharmaceuticals Philippines, Inc. for their support in making this visit possible.

And, of course, thank you to our Panay members who joined the gathering. It was good to hear their voices, learn from their experiences, and simply spend time together face-to-face.

This is what HAPLOS hopes to continue across the organization—not simply bringing National closer to the chapters, but bringing the chapters and National closer to one another.

HAPLOS invites eligible members to join this hands-on workshop on the safe preparation and administration of clotting factor concentrates at home.

WHO MAY ENROLL?
A. Parent/Caregiver Track
✅Parent or primary caregiver of a child with hemophilia who receives or is expected to receive intravenous clotting factor treatment
✅Willing to learn factor preparation, venous access, infusion, and basic safety procedures
✅Willing to undergo hands-on training and return demonstration

B. Patient Self-Infusion Track
✅Person with hemophilia who receives or is expected to receive intravenous clotting factor reatment
✅Preferably 10 years old and above, with appropriate maturity and readiness
✅Willing to undergo hands-on training and return demonstration
✅Minors should have the support of a parent/caregiver

🟠 HAPLOS MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
Participation is open to HAPLOS members with updated registration records. Members with incomplete or outdated records will be asked to update their registration before enrollment is confirmed.

Kumustahan: Reconnecting Our HAPLOS Community 💚

As we begin a new chapter in HAPLOS, one of our priorities is to strengthen our connection with our chapters and affiliate.

Over the past several weeks, our Kumustahan sessions gave us the opportunity to reconnect, listen, exchange updates, and better understand the needs and aspirations of our communities.

Each conversation reminded us that while we may be in different parts of the country, we are one HAPLOS Community—connected by shared experiences and a common purpose.

💚 The HAPLOS Community warmly congratulates Atty. Rowena (Winnie) Turingan-Sanchez, our Assistant Treasurer, on her appointment as Assistant Executive Secretary, Internal Audit Office, Office of the President.
