The nation honors National Artist Ramon Obusan on his 88th Birth Anniversary.

Ramon Obusan emerged as a luminary in the realm of dance, renowned for his prowess as a dancer, choreographer, stage designer, and artistic director. His extraordinary contributions to Philippine dance and cultural endeavors earned him an indispensable position within the nation's artistic sphere. Beyond the stage, Obusan committed himself to the preservation of Filipino cultural heritage, serving as a researcher and archivist, meticulously documenting traditions to ensure their survival. His role as a documentary filmmaker further enhanced this mission, capturing the very essence of Filipino culture for a broader audience.

A significant milestone in his career was the founding of the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, which highlighted the beauty and richness of Philippine dance. This ensemble fostered cultural exchanges, utilizing dance as a means to bridge cultural divides and celebrate Filipino heritage through dynamic performances. Obusan also participated in cultural diplomacy, advocating for Philippine dance on the global stage and encouraging dialogue about cultural diversity. His legacy endures, inspiring generations to come.

Delighted to have been part of the historic celebrations of the 128th Philippine Independence Day in Kawit, Cavite, the birthplace of our nation's freedom. As the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe continues its 80th Anniversary celebrations, our young Cultural Ambassadors were honored to contribute through music and dance, paying tribute to our shared heritage and the generations who fought for our independence.

NATIONAL ARTS MONTH
Closing event

Philippine Normal University
Sat, Feb 28, 2026

This Saturday, as we perform once again at the Philippine Normal University, we honor our beginnings while stepping boldly into our future. Returning home to where it all began is a celebration of our legacy and a powerful promise of all that PB will continue to build in partnership with PNU.

As we celebrate our 80th Anniversary, this homecoming carries even deeper meaning. For eight decades, PB has stood at the meeting point of performance, education, and cultural research. Returning to PNU is not only symbolic, it reaffirms our roots as an educational and cultural troupe shaped within a national university.

This performance also marks the closing of National Arts Month, making the occasion even more significant. It is a fitting way to honor the arts not only as expression, but as scholarship, discipline, and shared heritage.

As we move forward, we renew our commitment to expanding PB’s educational and research programs, opening more pathways for training, documentation, cultural study, and artistic exchange. From where it all began, we continue the work.

Stronger. Wiser. Still dancing.
