It was the darkest day in history.
"Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”" (Matthew 27:45-46 ESV)
It was on the books, written long before it was fulfilled.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
pand with his wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5 ESV)
Today, we thank God for this Friday. For the flesh that was pierced and the blood that was shed. Ultimately, for the glory shown on the cross that led to our salvation.
As we remember His love shown through the suffering and death of His one and only son, let's take this time to reflect on the road that led to Calvary:
Our sin.
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
(Romans 3:23 ESV)
We turned our backs on the only one who truly loved us -- our Creator. We dove headfirst into sin, willingly abandoning his will.
Yet, even knowing all that, even though He knew the nature of a man's heart, He still came up with a plan to save us.
"but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8 ESV)
Thank God, it's Friday. Thank God, we can look forward to Sunday.
