Happy World Theater Day! Theater can change communities. That is the story of "Goodbye, Dumi! Hello, Healthy!" Written by Glecy Cruz Atienza and with songs by Roberto Dela Cruz Mendoza, the play helped in convincing fathers and mothers to finally build their own toilets in villages where open defecation was prevalent.

Knock out Totoy Bakterya!

This is our local version of "Yes! We Can TB" when speaking to male residents of Olongapo City. The Olongapo City Health Department and CHSI Philippines, Inc. set up a speed bag challenge for tricycle drivers and fishermen who received free chest X-ray scans during the observance of World TB Day in Barangay Barretto.

Mixed martial arts athlete Nik Baraw demonstrated how to use the speed bag. By making a villainous boxing character out of the dreaded Mycobacterium tuberculosis, we found it easier to talk to men about the importance of early detection and complete treatment to knock out the TB bacteria.

On World TB Day, the Olongapo City Health Department gave free chest X-ray scans to 89 tricycle drivers, fishermen, government employees, and walk-in residents of Barangay Barretto. Eight clients were found presumptive of TB via artificial intelligence. This translates to about one presumptive TB case for every 11 individuals scanned. Based on 2025 data, the typical person with TB in Olongapo City was a 45-year old male. But more females than males availed of free chest X-ray scans last year. With the support of CHSI Philippines, Inc., the Olongapo City Health Department is bringing its ultra-portable chest X-ray machine to settings with predominantly male workers like public transport terminals and construction sites.

What if we make a pesky boxer character out of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and call him Totoy Bakterya or simply Totoy B? That's just what we did together with our Barangay Health Workers in Olongapo City as part of our campaign. To help BHWs convince household contacts to get checked for active TB disease or TB infection, our BHWs tested a picture story book of how Totoy B goes from one infectious and untreated person with TB to a close contact and inflicts pain on the lungs like a villainous boxer. The experiment helped our BHWs make convincing stories about TB Preventive Treatment.

Libre ang chest X-ray sa ating mga health centers. Mabilis pa ang resulta kaya punta na’t ipasilip ang mga baga.
