Every October, the Philippine insurance industry sets aside a whole month to remind Filipinos of something easy to forget until disaster strikes: protection matters.
๐๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต (๐๐๐ ) ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ officially opened on October 1 at the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP). As at every ICM launch, the day began with a Holy Mass. It was a moment for the industry to give thanks for the blessings of the past year and to pray for guidance in the months ahead, so that it may stay true to its mission of serving and protecting the Filipino public. A short program followed, where leaders of the ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ and the ๐๐๐ invited the industry and the public to take part in a full month of activities.
This year's theme, "๐๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ: ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ ๐ง๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ง๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐," comes at an important time. Insurance pe*******on in the country is still below two percent, so most Filipino homes, farms and small businesses are left to carry their losses alone. The Philippines is also among the most disaster-exposed countries in the world, and PAGASA has warned that the current El Niรฑo may become one of the strongest on record. It could bring both drought and stronger typhoons well into 2027.
Insurance matters because it helps families recover from accidents and loss without losing everything they've worked for. It lets businesses reopen and keep people employed after a setback, and it helps communities rebuild faster when disaster strikes. With so much at stake, this year's ICM aims to help more Filipinos turn awareness into understanding, understanding into action, and action into real protection.
The three associations have lined up activities that reach the public and the industry alike: radio guestings, a free IIAP webinar on non-life insurance, a fun run, industry forums, a CSR activity and a roundtable. The month wraps up with a friendly pickleball culminating event.
As the hosts put it at the launch, ICM's success isn't measured by how many events are held, but by how many Filipinos are reached.
So let's make this October count. Together, let's ๐น๐ฒ๐'๐ ๐๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ! ๐ต๐ญ
