Islamic Relief Worldwide is an independent humanitarian and development organization based in Birmingham, UK.

Islamic Relief Philippines is a faith inspired international humanitarian and development organization that responds to the needs of marginalized and vulnerable people. We have provided emergency response and supported early recovery efforts of communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan in Northern Cebu and Leyte Province. We are currently implementing development projects in Mindanao, focusing on the sectors of livelihood, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and disaster risk reduction and management. Our Philippine country office is located in Cotabato City. Islamic Relief does not support construction of mosques and Dawah activities. We manifest our Islamic values through our programs and services and building partnerships with communities regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation. We strictly observe CHS standards and humanitarian principles.

For Self-Help Group (SHG) members, working together goes beyond saving money. It also means building opportunities to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their communities.

In Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, 60 SHG members and project rightsholders participated in a Pre-Membership Education Seminar (PMES) to about cooperative membership, leadership, financial management, and their rights and responsibilities as future cooperative members.

Conducted in collaboration with the Cooperatives and Social Enterprise Authority of BARMM (CSEA-BARMM), the seminar provided participants with practical knowledge on cooperative management, membership responsibilities, and the steps toward forming their own cooperative.

The activity is part of the Advancing Climate-Resilient Livelihoods and Disaster Preparedness for Extreme Poor Families in BARMM (ADVANCING) Project, supported by Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) through its Global Family Development (GFD) Division, which aims to strengthen sustainable livelihoods and community resilience.

Building a successful enterprise starts with the right knowledge, skills, and teamwork! 💼✨

Through the Community-Based Enterprise Development (CBED) Training, 60 project rightsholders, comprising APEX Cooperative officers and members from the Municipality of Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, BARMM, strengthened their skills in business planning, financial management, costing, pricing, and marketing.

During the hands-on workshop, participants worked together to develop simple business plans and identify practical steps to grow their enterprises.

💙 More than just business skills, the training is about strengthening cooperatives, creating livelihood opportunities, and building resilient communities!

Access to water remains a daily challenge for many families in the Municipality of Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur, particularly in remote communities like Sitio Dalumba, where Namra lives.

For years, Namra and her family have relied on a water well for their daily needs, including drinking, cooking, washing, and other household activities. With limited access to reliable water sources, collecting water has long been part of their daily routine.

Today, things are becoming easier for Namra and her family. Through the construction of water pumps under the Individuals are Protected from Threats and Environmental Risks through Shelter and WASH (IPROTECTS) Project, supported by Islamic Relief Canada, they now have easier access to water for their daily needs.

For Namra, having a water pump in her community means spending less effort collecting water and having more time for her family and everyday responsibilities.

For years, 64-year-old Taya, a widowed mother, lived with her children in a small house made of leaves and other light materials in the Municipality of , . Whenever floods came, they had to leave their home and seek safety elsewhere.

“I never imagined that I would have a house of my own. I thought I would spend my entire life without a place to call home. That is why it is such a blessing to finally have a home that my family and I can call our own,” she shared.

Today, Taya and her children have a safer, more durable home through the Individuals are Protected from Threats and Environmental Risks through Shelter and WASH (IPROTECTS) Project, supported by Islamic Relief Canada. After years of living in a flood-prone shelter, her family now has a more secure place to call home.

💧 Access to water makes a difference in everyday life, from preparing meals to maintaining proper hygiene at home.

At least 80 hand pumps are now usable in communities in Barangay Bago Inged and Barangay Inug-ug, Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur, helping families access water for their daily needs.

Alhamdulillah! 💧🏫 Construction materials have been delivered to Baya Elementary School, Dataya Elementary School, Bagoended Elementary School, Inug-ug Elementary School, and Kilangan Elementary School in the Municipality of Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur.

Every child deserves a safe and healthy place to learn. These materials will support the construction of school latrines, hand pumps, and handwashing facilities, based on the specific needs of each school, helping promote better sanitation, hygiene, and access to safe water for learners and school communities.

🏠 A new shelter provides a safer place to live but having the basic household items needed for everyday life helps families turn that space into a home. 🤍

Through the Individuals are Protected from Threats and Environmental Risks through Shelter and WASH (IPROTECTS) Project funded by Islamic Relief Canada, household kits were distributed to families in Barangay Bago Inged and Barangay Inug-ug, Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur.

Each shelter was equipped with essential household items, including a dish drainer, mat, blanket, plates, jerry can, and cooking pot: simple but important items that support families as they rebuild their daily routines and make their new living spaces more comfortable and functional.

These household items complement the shelter assistance by helping families meet their immediate everyday needs with greater dignity and ease. 🏠🤝

🌱💼 A good business idea needs more than capital—it needs planning, knowledge, and the confidence to make informed decisions.

For APEX Cooperatives in Barangays Datu Mantil, Lower Pangankalan, and Lower Baguer in , , building these skills is another step toward creating more sustainable livelihood opportunities for their members and communities.

Through the Basic Small Enterprise Development and Management Training, cooperative officers and members strengthened their understanding of business planning, market analysis, costing and pricing, financial management, marketing, and enterprise sustainability.

Participants also developed simple business plans and enterprise action plans, identifying practical steps their cooperatives can take to improve and grow their businesses.

By strengthening the capacity of cooperatives to manage their enterprises, the training supports communities in exploring new income opportunities, improving existing livelihood activities, and building greater economic resilience.

🏫🚨 Disaster preparedness begins in our communities and grows stronger in our schools.

“DRRM goes beyond community preparedness, it also means ensuring that our schools are safe and ready for disasters,” shared Ronald Cabalquinto, Humanitarian Programme Manager of Islamic Relief Philippines.

The 13 schools in Rajah Buayan are strengthening their School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Plans through a structured process of review, validation, and refinement, helping ensure that each plan is practical, inclusive, and responsive to the risks faced by their school communities.

Using seven planning tools, schools work through the process of understanding their school context, identifying hazards, analysing risks, assessing capacities, prioritising gaps, developing DRR-CCA actions, and preparing operational plans.

The process helps ensure that school plans are practical, inclusive, risk-informed, and responsive to the realities of learners and school communities, so that education can continue before, during, and after disasters. 🌱📚

🚨 Preparedness starts with plans that reflect the realities, risks, and needs of communities.

The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) planning process continues in Pahamuddin, bringing together all 12 barangays of the municipality as communities work to strengthen local disaster preparedness and resilience.

As part of this continuing process, barangay representatives came together for the Review and Finalization Workshop on Gender-Responsive and Inclusive BDRRM Plans, grounded in Participatory Risk Assessment (PRA) results.

Through one-on-one review sessions with Jennifer Garvida and Rhealuz Cabrera from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), barangay representatives reviewed their plans, identified areas requiring further revision or completion, and received technical guidance to help strengthen their disaster preparedness planning

The process is part of the wider effort involving all 12 barangays of Pahamuddin, ensuring that disaster preparedness planning is grounded in local realities and strengthened through community participation.

While the BDRRM Plans are still undergoing review and revision, the process is an important step toward developing more responsive, inclusive, and community-informed disaster preparedness plans.

Through continued collaboration and local leadership, communities are taking practical steps to strengthen their capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. 🤝🌱
