Gina, 28 years old and a mother of six, was at home when the earthquake struck. She immediately carried her two youngest children and rushed outside to safety. Moments later, their house collapsed as neighboring structures gave way and caused further damage.

Despite losing their home and belongings, she expressed gratitude that her children are safe. The family is now staying in an evacuation center after leaving everything behind during their sudden evacuation.

Due to ongoing aftershocks, several residents have also relocated to safer areas. Affected families are currently being accommodated in the municipal gymnasium and other designated evacuation sites near the Municipal Hall.

As of the latest MDRRMO report, 164 households are staying in evacuation centers in the Municipality of Malapatan, Sarangani, while 8 households have sought temporary shelter with relatives and friends outside the evacuation facilities.

Islamic Relief Philippines - Emergency Response Team continues to maintain its presence on the ground, actively supporting response operations and coordination with local authorities and partners.

Initial findings from the Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA) conducted by the Islamic Relief Philippines team indicate that the Municipality of Malapatan is among the hardest-hit areas affected by the earthquake. According to the MDRRMO, 5 fatalities, 46 were injured, and 1 individual remains missing. Meanwhile, 164 families continue to seek refuge in evacuation centers and temporary shelters as communities cope with the ongoing impact of the disaster.

Several roads have been closed due to safety concerns arising from cracks and structural damage, particularly the bridge in Barangay Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani. The bridge serves as a vital access route connecting residents to the town proper, where they obtain essential goods and services.

As a precautionary measure, heavy vehicles, private cars, and motorcycles are currently prohibited from crossing the bridge. Residents are only allowed to cross on foot to access the other side. The area is also experiencing power outages and intermittent network and communication signal disruptions, further affecting affected communities.

Ongoing aftershocks have prompted some families to evacuate and move their essential belongings to safer locations. Concerns remain high among residents, especially in the coastal municipality of Malapatan, as ongoing aftershocks and infrastructure damage continue to create uncertainty while communities adhere to safety measures and advisories from local authorities.

In the aftermath of the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao, the Islamic Relief Philippines Emergency Response Team (ERT) has completed a Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA) in the most severely affected areas of General Santos and Sarangani.

Communities continue to face significant challenges, with disrupted livelihoods, intermittent telecommunications, and ongoing anxiety due to persistent aftershocks.

Initial findings indicate that Sarangani Province is among the hardest-hit areas, reporting 18,414 affected individuals, 11,221 displaced persons, 22 fatalities, and extensive damage to both housing and public infrastructure.

The assessment identified urgent humanitarian priorities, including food assistance, shelter repair and reconstruction support, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions, non-food items (NFIs), and psychosocial support for displaced families.

🀝 Islamic Relief Philippines stands in solidarity with affected communities as they work toward recovery, rebuilding their lives with dignity, resilience, and hope.
