A charitable trust established to provide a dedicated emergency rescue and air ambulance helicopter service for the people of Northland. We provide the people of Northland with an excellent, safe, effective and efficient service, and will do so by maintaining its present course – one of providing first class flight crews aboard top class aircraft. We know about Northland’s unsealed roads, our changeable weather and the fact that our people live over a wide-spread area that’s often difficult to access quickly by road. We’re also aware of the increased risk of death and serious injury caused when medical treatment is delayed – all of which makes Northland’s Electricity Rescue Helicopter service so essential. We not only provide rescue services at accident scenes, but we also do a lot of inter-hospital patient transfers. We specialise in transporting NICU and PIQU babies and code stemi patients too. The emergency rescue helicopters are crewed on every mission by either one or two members of a full-time team of St John Flight Intensive Care Paramedics (ICPs) who play an integral role in providing the medical care and treatment to all sick and injured patients transported. The Trust is supported by the generous contributions made by local sponsors, individuals, families, businesses and organisations. A Board of Trustees, all of which are Northlanders, governs NEST and oversees its strategic direction and management. Over the last 12 months we have flown 735 missions and transported 800 people to hospitals or medical facilities around the north. On average, our helicopters are in the air twice a day, saving or making a huge difference to the lives of everyone we carry. Most people in Northland have a loved one or someone they care about, that have been flown by NEST.

Community support starts at the Grassroots and that's why we want to thank our Grassroots Sponsors for looking out for us.

It is easy to become a Grassroots Sponsor. Simply choose a figure between $500 and $2499 and you can sponsor us annually.

Haruru's Total Plumbing and Gas were one of our first Grassroots Sponsors and say giving back to the community is important.

Owner Owen Paterson says anyone, at any time, could need the help of the Northland Westpac Rescue Helicopters.

"It makes sense to me and my family to back such a critical life-saving service. It is so reassuring to know that with the collective support of sponsors throughout Northland, Northern Rescue is here for us all - 365 days of the year, 24/7.

"I encourage other Northland businesses to get on board with sponsorship and sign up as a Grassroots Sponsor now. Every dollar counts and helps keep our Northland Westpac Rescue Helicopters in the air."

Northlander Nicola Perkins stepped into the boxing ring for the first time recently and raised $5,335.00 for the Northland Westpac Rescue Helicopters!

Nicola's family trekked south from Teal Bay to be ringside in Auckland and witness her win by TKO. Her bout was part of the Trade Me Property Real Estate Fight Night in Ellerslie and as a double whammy, we had our latest Northern Rescue lottery vehicle - a multi award winning RX7 on display on the night!

Just 4,000 tickets are available to win this award-winning 1986 Mazda RX-7 Series 4, with every ticket helping support our rescue crews when they’re needed most.

Spotlight on ➡ Pilot – Michael Woodley-Gill 🚁
Gillie joined Northern Resue in 2024 and has flown out of our Whangārei and Ardmore bases in all three helicopter types – Sikorsky S-76, AW169 and BK117.

He finds satisfaction in seeing positive outcomes for people experiencing what is potentially the worst day of their life.
Gillie says the most important part of his job is witnessing the best of humanity in action.

Seeing colleagues put themselves on the line to help others and having amazing aircraft, crews and medical equipment available is extremely humbling - constant reminders of how fortunate we are to call New Zealand home.

The good people of Hokianga strike gold!

A massive shout-out to Jo Tucker and her awesome organising committee - Diane Hunia, Fiona Lees, Liz Henley and Vivienne Davies - for their third successful, substantial fundraiser in recent years.

The Hokianga quiz night held on our behalf last weekend raised over $20,000 👏

That means Jo and her team with the support of the local community and numerous sponsors from around the North have raised around $70,000 for us in recent years.

The action-packed and community-oriented event was attended by around 150 people and was a really enjoyable night. We simply can't do what we do without the support of our community champions.

Celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!

This Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, our team is proud to show our support by wearing our Te Reo Māori t-shirts, and celebrate the richness of Aotearoa’s indigenous language and culture.

Te reo Māori is taonga - a language that connects us to our people, our history, and our place in Aotearoa. 🌿

Kia kaha te reo Māori!
Let’s celebrate, learn, and use te reo Māori every day.

A great evening at our Whangārei base with Beca!

Around 60 people joined us at Whangārei Airport last night for Beca’s annual client function — a wonderful opportunity to connect with Beca staff, partners and stakeholders and share an update on Northern Rescue.

Our CEO Ian MacPherson spoke about what we’ve been up to, our plans for the future, and our new 169 helicopter, which our pilots and paramedics have been flying extensively for training and operational purposes.

A huge shout-out to our Northland engineering team, whose skill and hard work has helped get the 169 airborne and ready to support our crews and patients. 🚁

We’re grateful to the team at Beca for their ongoing support and for helping us continue providing this vital service to the Northland community.
