It was an early morning flight for the Westpac Chopper crew along with Wellington Hospital Flight Team - someone in Whanganui urgently needed medical care.

In no time, they were airborne, helping the 14th patient flown by a Life Flight aircraft in less than 24 hours. Each of those flights represents a life cared for, a family supported, and a community helped.

It’s your support that keeps our six nationwide Air Ambulance Planes and Wellington-based Westpac Chopper ready to respond. Because of you, over a dozen people received critical care in just one day. On behalf of our crew and patients—thank you.

Our goal is to ensure that everyone in New Zealand receives the life-saving care they need, wherever and whenever they need it.

A big part of making that possible is training – and yesterday was a beautiful day for it!

As the only fixed wing aeromedical service currently able to land in Taumaranui, the Life Flight Air Ambulance crew routinely carry out training sessions to ensure they have the skills to safely land on Taumaranui’s short grass runway. ✈️

It takes a team to get the Westpac Chopper ready to help someone in need 🚁

Critical Care Paramedic James snapped this behind-the-scenes shot showing one of the first steps before every mission: moving the chopper out of the hangar.

Thanks to the generosity of Kubota New Zealand, our crew uses a tractor to carefully tow the chopper onto the apron

Once in place, the pilot fires up the engines, and the ACO runs through all the vital safety checks—making sure everything is ready for take-off.

Our crew transported one patient to Wellington Hospital for further medical care.

🐝 Looking for a fun and free school holiday activity?

Bee curious and explore Bee in the City Wellington, Life Flight's giant public art sculpture trail in Pōneke Wellington, created in Partnership with Wild in Art and presented by Mills-Albert Limited.

From now until 8 November, families can discover 30 giant artist-transformed bee sculptures and 20 community bees across the Wellington C*D. Download the free map app to collect bees, unlock sweet rewards, and turn a walk around the city into a buzzing adventure.

Prefer paper? Pick up a printed trail map from The Enormous Crocodile Bike and Shake Shop off Herd St and start exploring at your own pace.

Best of all, every bee discovered helps support a bigger cause. At the end of the trail, the giant sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for Life Flight, helping keep lifesaving air services flying when they're needed most.

Wellington is officially buzzing 🐝

Bee in the City Wellington has transformed Wellington into a giant outdoor art gallery for the next eight weeks!

From 14 September to 8 November, more than 30 giant bee sculptures designed by Kiwi artists, alongside 20 community bees created by local schools and groups, will pop up across Wellington for a free, family friendly art trail.

It is such a cool excuse to get out and explore the city, discover some incredible artwork and see Wellington from a slightly different perspective.

Even better, it is all for a very important cause. At the end of the trail, the giant bees will be auctioned on 26 November to raise vital funds for Life Flight Trust and its lifesaving 24/7 services.

We cannot wait to spot them all around town. Who’s going bee hunting? 🐝

Bee in the City Wellington is officially LIVE! 🐝✨🙌

From 14 September to 8 November 2026, Wellington becomes one big bee-hunting adventure — download the app, grab a trail map, collect the bees and start exploring. 💛

The Bee in the City Trail Hub is now open at Enormous Croc Bike and Shake, with trail maps, bee stickers and Bee in the City + Life Flight merchandise to help you get started.

📺✨ Keep an eye out for Bee in the City on Seven Sharp tonight, with fingers crossed for Breakfast TV at 8.55am on Tuesday.

🎉 Tomorrow at midday, the official opening ceremony takes place at Whitmore Plaza, outside Flamingo Joe’s.

📌 And my golden girl has officially landed! You’ll find Bee in the Detail (Pī i te Iti) at Moore Wilsons Wellington, proudly displayed in the main piazza on the ground floor. 🐝✨

Bee in the City is officially buzzing! 🐝🐝🐝

​You might have seen the giant bees popping up on our socials and around Pōneke Wellington - but did you know they’re helping save lives?

​Bee in the City sculpture trail, presented by Mills-Albert Limited is raising vital funds for Life Flight, helping provide critical lifesaving care to people across Aotearoa when they need it most.

​In recognition of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, we’re shining a light on one of the beautiful sculptures in the trail - this ngaro a huruhuru native bee, created by Taupuruariki (Ariki) Whakataka Brightwell.

​Inspired by the bee’s form and colours, Ariki has used flowing kōwhaiwhai patterns to express nature and whakapapa, while highlighting the important role of our native bees.

​We’re incredibly grateful to all of the talented artists, our generous sponsors and our wonderful bee hosts for bringing Bee in the City to life - and helping us raise vital funds to keep Life Flight flying.

Life Flight is bringing the buzz to Pōneke Wellington, with the Bee in the City Wellington sculpture trail - and there's only two days to go! 🐝

From 14 September to 8 November 30 Giant Bee and 20 Smaller Bee sculptures will transform this beautiful city into a vibrant canvas of art and fun for the whole family.

Join us for eight weeks as we celebrate Pōneke and the wonderful community that's kept the Life Flight Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Air Ambulance Planes flying 24/7, 365 days a year.

All proceeds raised will go to the Life Flight Trust, helping provide lifesaving aeromedical care. 🚁🛩️
