Thanks to the incredible talent and support of artist John Armstrong, our first Learner Bee is looking bee-utiful 🎨

John's connection to Life Flight is personal; after his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Life Flight transported his father from the Waikato to Wellington so that they could spend more time together.

Grateful for this service, he embraced the chance to support Life Flight through his art.

His sculpture aims to inspire wonder about nature, depicting a bee hovering over an island landscape. John hopes to encourage people to reconsider the significance of nature – to take a closer look next time they see a real bee.

Since 1939, Dulux has been enhancing the spaces where Kiwis live, work, and play, and we’re thrilled to have them as sponsors. Their generous contribution of 400 litres of premium paint will help our talented artists bring their bee sculptures to life!

We recently visited Dulux’s headquarters and had a fantastic time with their team. While the real Dulux Dog couldn’t make it, their stunt-double did a great job 🐾

Bee in the City is coming to Wellington in Spring 2026 🐝

We’re bringing a spectacular art trail to the capital, Bee in the City presented by Mills Albert, featuring over 30 giant bee sculptures designed by Kiwi artists and sponsored by local businesses.

The trail will run for eight weeks and end with a charity auction supporting Life Flight’s life-saving aeromedical services.

Launched last Wednesday at Westpac HQ, we unveiled the first ‘learner bees’ that will visit schools as part of our education programme.
