Kapiti Wellington District Freemasons If you want to know more please reach out to us. Freemasonry has been practised in Australia and New Zealand since early in the 19th Century.

This is a platform for updates on Masonic activities and updates on what's happening in the Greater Wellington and Taranaki district as well as throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand as well and around the world. The first Grand Lodge was established in England in 1717 and thereafter Freemasonry spread rapidly throughout the world. The Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of New Zealand (Free

masons New Zealand) was constituted in April 1890 but Freemasonry has been in New Zealand since the early 1800’s under the banners of the English, Irish, and Scottish Constitutions. The first Masonic meeting in New Zealand was held in 1837 and the first Lodge founded in 1842. It currently has a membership of 5472 Freemasons formed into 193 Lodges throughout New Zealand. There are over five million Freemasons throughout the world.

Remember and Celebrate the life of David Marshall

This email was sent to all brethren in the Greater Wellington Taranaki Region.

It is clear that the Great Architect is cooking up the working of the decade in that Grand Lodge above as he is hand-picking some of our best. First Rick Masterton, now David Marshall - let's hope he already has the rest of his team locked and loaded.

David Marshall would have to have been one of the finest freemasons ever. Always a cheeky smile; a quit wit; and a deep empathy which he showed to all he met. It was tragic when he lost Hazel a few years ago - and if there is any good news in his passing - it is that he and Hazel are reunited in eternity.

The Masonic flame burns brightly for David. A once in a generation mason - not only a gift to the Craft - but to the world.

David's service will be held in Palmerston North this coming Friday (13th) at 1.00pm.

Click below to view the service details; read the notice; and (optionally) leave an online tribute.

Remember and Celebrate the life of Rick Masterton
Dear Brethren,

This email was sent to all brethren in the old Kapiti-Wellington District and the old Hutt Wairarapa District.

Many of you will be aware of the tragic passing of Rick Masterton last week. Many of us are still struggling to come to terms with the passing of such a great man. Many brethren have asked how they can pay their final respects to Rick.

In keeping with the wishes of Rick and his family, the funeral service will be private - for family only.

For those Freemasons who knew Rick, there will be a celebration of his life at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club.

When: Friday 13th March from 2pm

Where: Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club, 11 Logan street, Upper Hutt.

Dress: Smart casual, (or formal attire if you wish).

The family will have a modest bar tab and finger food available.

If you can - please come along and share your memories of a true Freemason.

It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of RWBro. David Marshall, Past Deputy Grand Master, on Sunday morning.

Dave was an absolute Gentleman as well an excellent and enthusiastic Freemason. He will be sorely missed by me personally as well as his many friends in the Craft.

Dave's funeral will be held at 1pm Friday 13th March 2026 at Cotton's Chapel, 697 Main Street, Palmerston North.

We extend our sincere condolences to the Marshall family at this time.

Is Freemasonry open to all men? freemasonsnz.org Please like, follow and share our posts.

Another myth debunked.....'that Freemasonry is only open to selected people'. This is simply not true.....

All men are equal in Freemasonry.... it is open to all men, of any ethnicity, faith/creed/belief or social standing - who are men of good character and older than 18 years (in New Zealand) - and who want to become better men in themselves, and for their partners and families and their community - by joining the world's largest and oldest fraternity.

If you are interested in Freemasonry and live in New Zealand, we are interested in you. Go to www.freemasonsnz.org/join to find out more.

In a fortnight, New Zealand Cornerstone Lodge (NZCL) will hold its Make-up Installation Meeting, providing the opportunity to formally invest and install those Officers who were unable to be invested at our Constitution and Dedication meeting.

This will be a significant and uplifting occasion in the life of the Lodge, and an important moment for those Brethren concerned. All Brethren are warmly encouraged to attend and support the Officers and the Lodge.

Please ensure you are registered to attend.

Securing the Future of the Craft - Freemasonry’s timeless principles are what young men seek, yet our numbers decline. The problem isn’t our philosophy—it’s our outreach. To secure our future, we must bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and the modern world by embracing digital tools, demonstrating our community impact, and empowering new members. This is our roadmap for becoming architects of the future.
