Predator Free Wellington is showing what’s possible when a whole community works towards the same goal.

Their project spans 30,000 hectares and around 70,000 households, using large-scale predator control, community trapping, monitoring and innovative approaches to work towards a predator free Wellington.

And the results are already showing. They have successfully eliminated rats, stoats and weasels from the entire Miramar Peninsula (approximately 1000 hectares), and have seen a 136% increase in native bird detections since the project began.

So, what can we learn from Wellington? And could we apply some of those lessons here in the Bay of Plenty?

Could the Bay of Plenty be Predator Free like Wellington with native birds in our back yards and Kiwi on the doorstep?

Space for Nature is thrilled to join with Forest & Bird - Tauranga in welcoming Celia Wade-Brown to speak on important conservation matters. As an MP for the Green Party and a former Mayor of Wellington, she has seen how Wellington has become predator free and will talk about Predator Free, local reserves, the Conservation Act, and her member's bill about National Cat Management.

Her talk will be followed by question time.
