Choko and moth plant pods can look surprisingly similar, but one is a delicious homegrown vegetable and the other is an invasive w**d!

Choko (also known as Chayote) is edible and commonly grown in gardens throughout New Zealand.

Moth Plant is not edible and can quickly smother native trees and shrubs. Its pods are smooth and inflated, release a white milky sap, and are filled with hundreds of seeds which are dispersed by wind when the pods burst.

Knowing the difference helps protect our native environment and prevents this pest plant from spreading.

Have you spotted moth plant in your garden? Remove the pods before they burst and spread thousands of seeds.

You can bring your moth plant pods to our weigh in this Sunday 17th May 10-3 at Envirohub. Every pod drop off = one entry into the draw to win $50 and the person with the heaviest haul wins $50 too!
