🌿 What could a Predator Free Bay of Plenty look like?

Imagine a Bay of Plenty where native birdsong is part of everyday life, our green spaces are thriving, and native wildlife has a safer place to call home. 🐦🌱

A predator free Bay of Plenty is a big goal, but big conservation change starts when communities work together.

This Saturday, join us for a public meeting and hear from Predator Free Wellington about their journey in Miramar.

They’ll share how they got started, what they’ve achieved, what they’ve learnt along the way, and what their experience could mean for the Bay of Plenty.

Come along, hear the story, ask questions and be part of the conversation about what’s possible for our region.

📅 This Saturday
🚪 Doors open: 3:00pm
🕞 Meeting starts: 3:30pm

Our friends over at Western Bay Wildlife Trust were alerted to a clip on a community page this morning showing someone stroking a kororā (little blue penguin).
While they might be incredibly cute and small, this is an absolute no-no. Thankfully, the person did the right thing by calling for help, as a nocturnal bird being out during the day and allowing human contact is a strong sign that something isn’t right.
It’s a timely reminder that, as much as we might want to help our precious wildlife, the best thing we can do is keep our distance, avoid handling them and call the experts for advice.
If you come across a wild animal that appears distressed or injured, contact a wildlife rescue organisation for guidance rather than attempting to handle it yourself.
If you want to support the amazing work Western Bay Wildlife Trust does to protect our local wildlife head over to their page to find out how you can help. As a charity, they rely on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue their crucial work.
