Waikato is now in a State of Local Emergency ahead of Cyclone Vaianu - a precaution to enable rapid response if conditions worsen (not a signal for mass evacuation, but a clear call to be ready). A targeted evacuation is underway at Port Waikato (36 properties, including Sunset Beach cabins) due to slip risk from heavy rain. Bottom line: stay alert, stay prepared, follow official updates, and if you’re in a flood, coastal, or slip-prone area, be ready to move quickly.

Important Notice: Waikato has been upgraded to an ORANGE WIND WARNING, and we still currently remain in a Yellow Heavy Rain Watch – although this has a strong possibility of being upgraded to a warning.
