This week’s Toy of the Week is this colourful Melissa & Doug wooden piano, perfect for little musicians to explore the joy of making music!

Playing the piano encourages children to experiment with sound, rhythm and melody, while developing listening skills, concentration and hand eye coordination. Pressing the keys also helps strengthen fine motor skills and introduces children to the idea that their actions can create different sounds.

This week’s Toy of the Week is this classic Fisher Price Mailbox, suitable from 3 months+!

With bright colours, fun sounds and plenty for little hands to explore, this toy encourages babies and toddlers to reach, grasp, pull, push and interact with the different parts.

For our youngest tamariki, simple cause and effect play is a wonderful way to learn. As they move the handle, post the letters and explore the mailbox, they begin to discover that their actions can make things happen.

As children grow, the play can grow with them too. Posting and retrieving the letters helps develop fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and object permanence, while older toddlers can begin incorporating the mailbox into pretend play - delivering letters, checking the mail and creating their own little stories.

🚗 Toy of the Week: Wooden Road System Deluxe with Garage 🚦

This week’s Toy of the Week is this fantastic wooden road system, complete with a multi level garage, roads, vehicles, people and plenty of accessories to create your own little town!

With interchangeable road pieces, children can design and build different layouts, deciding where the roads lead and how their town comes together. This encourages problem solving, spatial awareness and early engineering skills as they experiment with different configurations.

Once the roads are built, the imaginative play can begin! Children can create stories, drive cars to the garage, follow road signs and explore everyday experiences such as visiting the ticket office, helping at the ambulance station or simply taking a drive around town.

Open ended construction and role play like this also supports creativity, language development and social skills, especially when children work together to build and play.

🤖 Toy of the Week: Code ’n Learn Kinderbot 💡

This week’s Toy of the Week is the Fisher-Price Code ’n Learn Kinderbot, suitable for tamariki aged 3 years+!

Kinderbot makes learning the basics of coding feel like play. Children can use the buttons to give their robot instructions, creating sequences and working out how to make Kinderbot move and respond.

As they experiment with different commands, children are developing problem solving skills, logical thinking, sequencing and concentration. When their robot doesn’t quite do what they expected, they can try again, change their instructions and discover what works, an early introduction to the idea of learning through trial and error.

It’s also a fun way to encourage curiosity and confidence with technology, helping children understand that they can give instructions, test ideas and solve problems themselves.

Who knew learning to code could be this much fun? 🤖✨

Toy of the Week: Growing Grandfather Puzzle 🧩

With Father’s Day coming up this weekend, we thought this special layered puzzle was a perfect choice for Toy of the Week!

This 31-piece wooden puzzle, recommended for ages 3 years+, shows a character growing from a young boy through to a grandfather. Children can piece together each stage of the puzzle while exploring the idea of how people grow and change over time.

Layered puzzles are a great way to develop problem solving, concentration, spatial awareness and fine motor skills. Working out where each piece belongs also encourages children to use trial and error, building patience and confidence as they work towards completing the picture.

It can also be a lovely starting point for conversations about family, growing up and the special people in our lives. Why not talk together about what Dad, Grandad or another special person was like when they were little? 💙

🔧 Toy of the Week: Mobile Tool Set Truck 🚛

This week’s Toy of the Week is ready to get to work! This mobile tool set truck comes with a range of child friendly tools, gears, bolts and pieces to twist, turn, build and fix.

Pretend play with tools gives children the chance to imitate the grown ups around them while developing their imagination, confidence and problem solving skills. They can create their own repair jobs, take their truck on the road, and use their imagination to decide what needs fixing!

Using the different tools and pieces also helps strengthen fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and dexterity as little hands practise turning, connecting and manipulating the parts.

It’s a great example of how everyday experiences can become learning opportunities through play, and who knows, you might have a future mechanic or builder in the making! 🔨😊

This week’s Toy of the Week is all about making a splash with our Animal Bathtime Fun set!

With a cute elephant hoop and a duck with a spinning water wheel, bath time becomes an opportunity for fun, exploration and learning. Children can experiment with pouring, scooping and moving water, discovering what happens as they play.

Water play is fantastic for developing fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and early problem solving. It also introduces simple concepts like cause and effect as children discover how water makes the wheel spin or how different objects move through the water.

And, of course, imaginative play comes into it too! Children can create their own stories and adventures with their animal friends while enjoying a fun sensory experience.

This week we’re heading down on the farm with this fun farm play set! 🐷🐑🐮

With farm buildings, animals, people, tractors, trailers and plenty of accessories, there are so many ways for little farmers to create their own farm adventures.

Farm play is a wonderful way for children to develop imagination, language and storytelling skills as they act out everyday experiences and create their own stories. Moving the animals, loading the trailers and setting up the farm also encourages fine motor skills, coordination and problem solving.

Role play gives tamariki the opportunity to explore the world around them, learn about animals and farming, and practise caring for others. And because there’s no single way to play, children can use their imagination to make each farm adventure completely their own!

A great set for little hands, big imaginations and plenty of moo-vellous play! 🐄💚
