Gordon Spratt Reserve parkrun Report: Cool, Damp, and Full of Milestones - run report brought to you by Hayley Crossman.
A cool, overcast morning with a little bit of drizzle welcomed 141 finishers to Gordon Spratt Reserve today â perfect conditions for anyone who likes their parkrun with a side of atmospheric drama. The puddles sparkled, the air was fresh and the course was just slippery enough to make everyone feel like an action hero without requiring stunt insurance.
Despite the light weather, spirits were high, shoes were damp, and at least three people claimed they ârun better in the rainâ while quietly hoping no one asked for proof.
Volunteers: The HiâViz Heroes
A huge thank you to our 16 volunteers who braved the drizzle and early morning alarm clocks like absolute champions. They clapped, scanned, timed and pointed at corners with the confidence of seasoned air traffic controllers - and they did it all with smiles that said, âWeâre waterproof⌠probably.â
And a gentle reminder - you can volunteer any time!
Every role comes with full training, zero pressure and maximum appreciation. Without volunteers, Parkrun simply doesnât happen. So if youâve been thinking about giving it a go, this is your sign.
Visitors, Tourists & Challenge Collectors
We had a brilliant mix of visitors today, including runners/walkers from Christchurch, Orewa, Hamilton and Cambridge (the UK one, not the Waikato one â though we love both equally!)
Many were here hunting down the elusive âGâ for the BeeGees Challenge, staying alive in their quest to complete the alphabet, because nothing says Saturday morning like ticking off letters in honour of a 70s disco group. Others were ticking off their position / stopwatch bingos, their Fibonacci sequences or continuing a tourist streak.
Whatever brought you here â welcome, and may your parkrun stats be forever satisfying.
Personal Bests
A stack of PBs were achieved today, proving once again that nothing motivates a runner quite like cool air, light rain and the desire to get back to the car before the drizzle becomes âproper rainâ, Congratulations to everyone who powered through the puddles faster than ever.
Milestones & Celebrations
A bumper crop of milestones today:
Danny Abbott â 100 parkruns
Triple digits unlocked. Dannyâs commitment and consistency has paid off!
Rich Aveyard â 200 parkruns
Two. Hundred. Parkruns.
Thatâs dedication, persistence and a deep emotional bond with Saturday mornings.
Jess Zeller â 50 volunteer credits
A huge achievement. Without volunteers like Jess, parkrun would just be a bunch of confused people running vaguely in the same direction.
Sheryll Pearce â 50 parkruns.
Fifty Saturday mornings of alarms, effort, fresh air and finish lines - an incredible achievement. Well done!
Chloe Trim â 25 parkruns
A quarterâcentury of parkrun joy. Badge earned, bragging rights activated.
Final Thoughts
Parkrun is one of those rare, brilliant ideas thatâs both simple and lifeâchanging. Every Saturday morning, at the same time, in thousands of locations all over the world, people gather to walk, jog, run, volunteer, cheer, or just be part of something positive.
Itâs free.
Itâs for everyone.
Itâs community at its best.
Whether youâre chasing a PB, chasing a letter challenge, or just chasing the feeling of doing something good for yourself, parkrun is always there â rain or shine. Thank you for joining us at Gordon Spratt Reserve today.
Same time next week â hopefully with less drizzle!
