Big climbs. Brave moments. Big wins for our Whānau!

Week 6 | Mātātoa (Adventure)

And what an adventure it was!

It was incredible to see so many of our young people and adults pushing themselves to new heights… literally!

From our littlest adventurers giving the kiddies course a go, to others conquering the very top of the course, the courage and determination on display was something really special.

It was also awesome to see our whānau supporting each other throughout the session. From encouragement on the ground to celebrating every milestone, that sense of community made the day even more powerful.

We are so grateful to the amazing and supportive team at . Having instructors who take the time to understand and support our young people, including those with additional needs, made all the difference. Creating space for everyone to succeed and celebrate their wins is something we truly value.

And as always, a huge thank you to for helping make The Adventure Series possible.

Day Three of the Adventure Series was all about Manaakitanga.

How we support each other.
How we work together.

It was a day of building.

Bivvies popping up in the bush.

Catapults launching projectiles across the hall.

Flintstone carts rolling along powered by teamwork and laughter.

Some of our tamariki were trying these things for the very first time.

Others jumped straight into problem solving, experimenting, and helping each other figure things out.

One of the best parts of the day was watching the adults.

At first they stood back…
Then slowly they joined in.

Before long they were building, testing, laughing, and getting just as competitive as the kids. Reliving a bit of their childhood.

And honestly, it reminded us that play is powerful at every age.

All day long we saw smiles, challenges, courage, and growth as people tried new things and supported each other along the way.

We are really loving getting to know our whānau and seeing their confidence grow each day.

And the best part?

We’re not even halfway through.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the Adventure Series brings.

Day one of the Autism Kids Collective Adventure Series centred on one kaupapa: Whanaungatanga.

We didn’t take photos on the day. We were too immersed in the experience.

How cool to see our Scout venues – Māngere Bridge Scout Hall and Camp Sladdin used for such a powerful kaupapa!

This wānanga was packed with te reo, tākaro, and intergenerational learning. From pēpi to pakeke, everyone was playing, learning, and living their reo together.

The outdoors is one of the BEST places to engage in Te Ao Māori, and we’re so lucky as an organisation to have these adventurous spaces that can support kaupapa like this.

Everything Nikki Penetito-Hemara and her whānau touch is absolute 🔥 watch this space, they’re only just getting started!

Feedback is the Foundation 💬❤️

One of the most powerful parts of running our ASD Dads Adventure Series has been hearing directly from the participants. Throughout the programme—and in the feedback survey afterwards—we’ve received some truly beautiful testimonies that remind us why we do what we do.

These gems of feedback are more than just kind words. They’re vital. They help us understand what’s working, what needs refining, and most importantly, how our programmes are making a real difference in people’s lives.

We shape every step of our journey with participant voices in mind. Every suggestion, story, and shared experience plays a part in building something better—something that truly meets the needs of our community.
