NZ Volunteer Week 2026

This Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the people who make our sport possible. 🙌

From hanging gates and driving trailers to coaching sessions, running events, judging races, and serving on committees, volunteers are at the heart of canoe slalom in New Zealand.

Whether it’s a local training session, a club event, or a national championship, volunteers are the backbone of our community.

Thank you for the countless hours you give to our athletes, clubs, and community. We couldn’t do it without you.

💙 Ngā mihi to all our volunteers, past and present.

New team uniform! 🌿🇳🇿

The New Zealand Canoe Slalom Squad is ready to take on the Junior/U23 World Championships, proudly wearing our new squad uniform.

The uniform design features the new CSNZ logo and branding. It includes elements such as the integration of the canoe shape into the iconic silver fern, symbolising both the sport and national identity.

The uniform was created in partnership with Diffuse, who were exceptional to work with from start to finish. We couldn’t be happier with how it looks.

What do you think of the new kit?

ECA Valstagna

After the sickly waters of Ivrea, the junior squad were relieved to arrive in Valstagna and see the clear river flowing through the valley. Set on a natural riverbank beside the road, the athletes took one look and thought, “This looks like home – we’ve got this!”

The week of training was challenging, with only one hour with a coach and then support on race day given, but the team worked together, supported each other, and continued to improve throughout the week.

Friday night saw the course go up – long, wide, and with a few tricky sections. Racing on Saturday and Sunday followed the same format, with one heat run and the top two-thirds progressing to finals. Combined results from both days determined the overall standings.

The demanding course tested everyone’s endurance, but the team finished strongly. Against a field of around 380 competitors, every athlete placed in the top half of their race group – a fantastic effort and a testament to the hard work put in throughout the week.

A special mention to Cooper Egan who finished 4th overall in U16 C1 and 5th overall in U16 K1.

Now it’s time for the next adventure in Prague! 🇳🇿🚐🇨🇿

World Cup 3 Results🎉

An exciting weekend of racing saw a New Zealand best from Oli Puchner, a narrow miss from the final for Finn Butcher and a range of fast runs and tidy technical moves from all athletes.

The senior team spreads out over the next few weeks before regrouping in Oklahoma in early July to prepare for the Senior World Championship.

Oli demonstrated speed and precision today, with only 0.39 seconds separating him from the final. This is believed to be New Zealand’s top result in the C1M category at an ICF World Cup.
