Steam Incorporated with Pounamu Tourism Group's The Mainlander Train returns to Invercargill tomorrow!

Although Ww644 is bigger than our F150, it's a stunning example of small engines doing big things.

Kudos to Finn for this amazing production, and of course the team behind the scenes that made the trip happen.

I wonder how many of you remember playing on this old loco which used to stand in Newfield Playground for kids to clamber over in the 1960’s.
It is now being completely refurbished by the Southern Steam Trust and brought back to life. The intention is that it will eventually begin Bluff to Invercargill heritage runs with passengers , probably three weekends a year, though that is still a year or two away.
the loco was built in Glasgow by Dubs and Co in 1881, which is of particular interest to me because my grandfather worked there. It was brought out to NZ in 1882 and served in the South for its working life until it was retired in 1958 in Invercargill (and thence to Newfield Playground).
The team of volunteers rebuilding it ,lead by Lindsay Buckingham, deserve huge credit and I have enjoyed visiting them several times over the past year watching what looked like a pile of scrap iron into the beauty she is today,.😀👍
