Disability Resource Centre H.B. Trust - DRC Our Vision:
The community is enriched by the participation of people with diverse abilities. Disability Resource Centre (H.B.)

Trust is a Charitable Trust and we offer support to, and promote opportunities for, people with a difference. We work to promote opportunities and facilities for the independence, mobility, and recreation of people with disabilities as well as providing occupational, social and personal opportunities and facilities. We also distribute information and provide assistance to our community and overall

foster, encourage and support the work of people with disabilities. Scopze Day Service offers day respite for people with disabilities. It was initially established in 2012 for clients that had been accessing Disability Resource Centre (HB) Trust services for a number of years but then required a more structured, quieter environment with additional support. Network Personnel assists people with a difference to plan their careers, find employment, and provide ongoing in-work support to ensure successful outcomes for their clients. It provides a free supported recruitment service to Employers, which enables businesses to broaden their access to the labour market and thus diversify the workplace. Turning Point is a service assisting people with disabilities to be valued contributors to their community, helping them to have the confidence, skills and support of their families and friends to reach their potential.

Nathanael has built a busy weekly routine around the things he enjoys and what matters to him.

He attends literacy and numeracy classes at Eastern Bridge, enjoys bowling and pool, and regularly heads to the gym as part of his week. Along the way he’s building confidence, connections, routines, and independence.

It’s also a great example of Te Whare Tapa Whā in action, supporting wellbeing through learning, relationships, physical activity, and a sense of purpose and belonging in the community.

Ka pai Nathanael, we enjoy seeing you out and about doing your thing.

Briar’s Fun-Filled Week 🌈✨

Briar had a fantastic week joining yoga on Monday and showing off her creativity by colouring beautiful Easter eggs during art/construction. 🧘‍♀️🥚🎨

She’s been having fun learning the sign language alphabet, enjoying music, and working hard on her literacy, numeracy, and life skills activities. 📚

Briar also continues to enjoy her social skills and relationships classes, building friendships and confidence along the way. 💛

During “Shake, Rattle & Roll” Briar stays focused with prompts and successfully completed all her exercises like a superstar! 💪😊

Grateful for an industry introduction and job testing opportunity for Rebeccaat Kōwhai Specialist School. 😊

Her employment goal is to become a teacher aid within an Early Child Care Centre, primary or intermediate school. Having a chance to connect, learn and get to know what this role requires through lived experiences has been helpful. 🤩

A Journey of Growth and Confidence 🌟

As Dion continues settling into DRC, he's starting to put together his own plan focusing on the things that matter to him and what he'd like to achieve next.

Over the past few months, it's been great to see Dion growing in confidence and getting out into the community more regularly. These days he enjoys attending his learner licence course on Tuesdays and spending time out and about on Thursdays visiting the library doing some shopping and heading out for lunch.

We're really enjoying seeing Dion try new things, build his confidence, and become more comfortable getting out and about each week.

Trying New Things & Building Confidence 🌿

Leanne has been embracing new experiences and making the most of her time out in the community. During a recent wellness walk and park visit, she’s been learning to throw a frisbee and play catch with a rugby ball—great for developing her hand-eye coordination while having fun outdoors.

She’s also been engaging more with her peers, showing wonderful social growth. One highlight was helping to stir the mixture for ANZAC biscuits, where she enjoyed being part of a shared activity and contributing to the group.

It’s fantastic to see Leanne building confidence, strengthening her coordination, and forming meaningful connections through these everyday experiences 💛

Life is never boring with Mike! 🧩🎳

From taking on complex puzzles with careful consideration to hitting the lanes for 10-pin bowling with friends, he certainly knows how to keep life interesting.

But what makes him truly special is his heart. ❤️ You can often find him giving back to the community, volunteering with Meals on Wheels alongside his buddy Mark! 🤝

Shoutout to Mike for balancing fun, focus, and friendship so perfectly!

Cards & Carfts anyone?

Lesley has a passion for all things crafts! A lady of many talents and good chats, who has a keen interest to find work crafting with elderly.

In the meantime Les continues fine tuning her crafts. 🤩

Growing Independence & Confidence 🌟

We’re so proud to see Mark becoming more independent every day! Recently, he’s learned how to walk to the bus stop and catch the bus home all on his own—what a huge milestone! 🚌👏

His confidence in communication is also shining through, as he enjoys chatting with people out in the community. It’s been amazing to watch him connect more and more with others.

And of course, he’s still having lots of fun playing table tennis with his friends at the DRC 🏓—a great way to stay active and social!
Keep up the awesome work, Mark—we’re cheering you on every step of the way! 💙
